As a Summa Cum Laude graduate (BS. Chemistry, Albany State University, 2010), and a Magna Cum Laude graduate (BSc. Natural Resources, University of Science and Technology, 2005), I aspire to become an academic pharmacist, teach in one of the world's leading universities, and train the next generation of highly competent pharmacists. Currently, in my 4th and final year, I am pursuing my Doctor of Pharmacy at the Keck Graduate Institute (KGI), a member of the Claremont Colleges in the Greater Los Angeles area. At KGI, I am a Presidential Excellence Scholar, Teaching Assistant, Peer Mentor, and past president of the KGI School of Pharmacy Tutoring Team. In May 2018, I was voted as the Third-Year Student Pharmacist of the Year. This award is given to only one student in each pharmacy class based on academic excellence, and contributions to leadership, service and/or research. Currently, I am on year-long pharmacy rotations so I may be in and out of the Upland area. However, do not hesitate to reach out to me if you need expert assistance in general chemistry or organic chemistry for College students or AP/General Chemistry tutoring for High School students.

Some of the students I have tutored in the past attended or currently attend schools like the Claremont colleges, UCLA, USC, UC Berkeley, United States Naval Academy, Cal-Poly-Pomona, Azusa Pacific, and several others. Also, I have volunteered as a tutor for colleagues and students more than I have tutored for money! It is the ultimate satisfaction that I get whenever I help a student with a C or failing class grade to finish with a B+ or better that drives me to tutor. It is the spirit in me that seeks perfection and satisfaction in others and in whatever I do that motivates me to tutor.

While a chemistry student at Albany State University, I tutored my colleagues in pre-calculus, chemistry, organic chemistry, biology, and biochemistry, among other classes for free! Since I already had a Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Resources before deciding to pursue second Bachelor's, I was older and more experienced than most of my classmates. However, as an ardent believer in inclusion, teamwork, and intellectual accommodation, I used my prior college background and experiences to assist my colleagues in laboratories and homework assignments. Subsequently, I was able to establish excellent professional interpersonal relationships with them; an attribute that is very important in being a coach or tutor of students at any level on the academic ladder.

In the above two paragraphs, we have heard of my belief in quality tutoring that is not inspired by money, my belief in high expectations with respect to academic success, and above all, my inclusive attitude toward a team-based approach to success that emphasizes professional interpersonal relationships. If after reading these paragraphs, you are convinced that this is the person you want to hire as a tutor for yourself, a friend, or a son/daughter, then read the genesis of my passion for tutoring below:

As a student at Albany State University, I spent most of my 'free time' volunteering in my mentor's physics research laboratory. It was during this time that I met a female colleague who was struggling in our general chemistry class. She offered to pay me to tutor her, but I was quite hesitant since I did not like the idea of charging a fellow colleague. After, several appeals, I decided to assist her at no cost and without any attached strings. She had a grade of D after the mid-term exams before we started studying together. However, through hard work, encouragement, and respect for each other, we worked together for her to make a final grade of B in general chemistry. I was exempted from the finals. To me, the sense of joy and confidence that I saw in her eyes after seeing her grade were non-quantifiable and more important than any money she could have given me. I felt so fulfilled and accomplished after that. Today, she is a very successful middle-grade science teacher and I am so proud to have had the opportunity to be a part of her success story.

Eventually, I signed up officially and tutored in several courses including general chemistry, biology, biochemistry, calculus/pre-calculus and later in physical chemistry. Because of my passion for research and my mastery of oral presentations, I volunteered to assist in Power-Point presentations and research projects at no cost. I have always believed in collective success from childhood. I believe that if we help each other to succeed, there will be less competition and envy in this world. To me, personal success and failure for my mentees or colleagues is a collective failure for us all. This is my principal philosophy!

If you believe in a person who puts a value on inclusion, respect for his students, and high expectations for academic success through teamwork and professional interpersonal relationships, then I will always be at your service. Whether you are in High school or in college, I would be glad to work with you. I also assist students to write their personal statements for graduate, pharmacy, nursing, and medical school.

Thank you and stay blessed!

Biochemistry,

Biochemistry

Officially, I have tutored biochemistry in the US since 2008. However, I also have a solid background in biological chemistry and biochemistry from my first Bachelors degree in Natural Resources. Collectively, I have used my extensive background in chemistry, organic chemistry, and biology to help my students appreciate the inter-relatedness of these subjects and biochemistry. At Georgia Perimeter College where I was a senior science tutor, I tutored students (especially nursing students and other health sciences majors) in biochemistry for 2 years. Currently, a Doctor of Pharmacy student at Keck Graduate Institute, my daily use of biochemistry and related disciplines means that I am always broadening my knowledge base and practical understanding of medical and bio-pharmaceutical biochemistry. All these knowledge help me to better explain some of the complex topics that make students fear biochemistry. I know how to motivate students to study basic concepts in carbohydrate, lipids, and amino acids metabolism. Also, I enjoy assisting students in enzymology and enzyme kinetics and dynamics, protein synthesis, and recombinant DNA technology. As a student with keen interest in teaching and research, I successfully competed and won rigorous research internships from University of California, Davis (antioxidant chemistry), Massachusetts Institute of Technology, MIT (Vector bio-engineering for infectious diseases research), and Merck Research Laboratories, Boston (medicinal chemistry research). Throughout the years, I have used these experiences to enhance my students' rate of comprehension of complex principles in biochemistry. Despite my academic backgrounds Chemistry (Summa Cum Laude, Albany State University, 2010) and Natural Resources (Magna Cum Laude, University of Science & Technology, 2005), I believe in a dynamic approach to tutoring, and continue to study to become a better professional. In that light, I also tutor from a standardized test approach to provide the needed challenges required to excel in the MCAT, DAT, PCAT and TEAS.

Organic Chemistry,

Organic Chemistry

Dear Potential students and parents, I have 8 years of tutoring experience in organic chemistry I and II. While a college student, I tutored organic chemistry to my peers and lower class colleagues from 2008 to 2010. I recently resigned from my post as the senior organic chemistry tutor at Georgia Perimeter College where I held small group sessions and discussions with students to explain fundamental concepts and their respective applications. My struggles with organic chemistry, and years of tutoring experience have given me a very strong grasp of the reaction mechanisms that form the core of organic chemistry. From nomenclature through reaction mechanisms to spectroscopy, I have devised very practical yet simple test taking skills that will help the average student to overcome the 'notoriety' associated with organic chemistry. I got As in both Organic I and II, and have extensive background in biological chemistry, and biochemistry as well. All these subjects are intertwined and enhance my abilities to tutor and mentor a student to excel in organic chemistry. In addition, I do not solely depend on organic chemistry textbooks but also on MCAT preparation materials from Exam Crackers and Kaplan to help simplify and drive home concepts while building on the critical thinking skills needed to excel in those kind of testing environments.

Great Biochem tutor!!!

Dr. Kofi explained the concepts and principles of biochemistry so well! I was so scared to go to class before I had a lesson with Dr. Kofi and now I am excited to attend my class and take my exam! I am very happy I have taken Biochemistry years ago and I have never understood Biochem this well he teaches in a way that you don’t have to memorize all but to understand it by heart and made it much simpler to understand. Thank you so much and I will make sure to recommend Dr Kofi to all people that are struggling to learn Biochemistry.

Great Teacher!

First impression of Kofi was his passion for the subject. I’ve been completely lost and confused in my organic chemistry class for the past 3 weeks. He helped me make connections between functional groups for better understanding over memorization. I can honestly say that I retained a good amount of information from him in just one session.

Tutor responded:

Hello Stefano, thank you for your nice review. I really appreciate that. I hope by the time you return back to Italy, your chemistry foundation will be very strong. Let me know if you need any assistance. Thank you.

Knowledgeable and very patient.

Kofi is very knowledgeable in chemistry, he taught me the concept of the periodic table, ocetet rule, isotopes, ionization, atomic size, difference between rows and columns, and basic conversion , which I was struggling with prior to meeting him. He broke down every single thing and illustrated it with everyday example in such a way that I could relate to it. Most importantly he was very patient with me since I have a zero knowledge in chemistry . He made sure I understood the topics before proceeding to the next. I will definitely give him a 5 star. I will also recommmend him to anyone who wants to understand chemistry, this guy is definitely the tutor you need.
