I was born and raised in India and Hindi is my mother tongue which I used on daily basis for first 25 years of my life including reading and writing. Because I studied in a convent school, English was always part of curriculum throughout my school. Later in college, I took English literature as one of my subject. I have passion for teaching. I was middle-school teacher in India for two years where I taught English and social science and my students showed remarkable progress. Later, I worked as an Instructor in college for a year and taught Sociology in Hindi and English.
After migrating to USA and raising family for few years, I tried to teach Hindi to my two daughters. To make it more interesting and useful, I gathered children of my friends and started teaching Hindi every Sunday. It grew into several classes. I realized that requirements of children growing in USA are different, so I developed a curriculum which was simpler and easier to understand and used English to Hindi translation method recognizing that English is their first language to be used as a base to teach second language. I included cultural aspects of India in the curri. I also worked as a Hindi Teacher for "India School" located in Bethesda , Maryland for couple years which was a formal, weekend school.
In 2009, my family relocated to India for 3 years which helped me to reconnect with culture, trends, and people there.
Numerous parents and students have acknowledged how much they have benefited by learning Hindi. As a teacher, my students' satisfaction and success is my satisfaction and success. Majority of the students I have taught over the years acknowledge that they have learned a lot in short time, in an easy and interesting manner. They were able to use the language in daily lives. It helped them to connect to their Indian roots, culture, tradition and people.
My message to Students is that enrich your life by learning second language and enjoy other cultures. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
