I teach Introductory and general Chemistry at a community college. I have taught for about thirty years. I not only teach chemistry, I also teach how to learn chemistry efficiently.
Ten to fifteen students visit my office weekly to get help. I engage in hundreds of tutoring and teaching hours every year. I teach prospective tutors how to tutor chemistry. I have received three grants to determine the nature of obstacles in learning and improve student success. I received the Most Motivating Teacher award of the math and Science Division of my community college in 2012.
I know how to address student misconceptions about learning chemistry and help them overcome obstacles in learning.
I wrote a 140 pages long Introductory Chemistry guidebook containing discussion, examples, and assignments. I use this guide to tutor introductory Chemistry. I give homework from the study guide. I help students construct a solid foundation of chemistry.
I am in the process of writing a guidebook for the first 10 chapters of the General Chemistry courses (the Advanced Placement course.)
I have many quizzes and exams in stock. I use them to help students improve their test preparation and test taking skills.
I teach chemistry and how to learn it effectively, how to prepare for exams, and how to take tests effectively. Thus I ensure student success. We are indeed grateful that Dhruv was able to spend time with our 10th grader. In the first couple of classes, Dhruv was able to discern that her fundamental understanding of Chemistry had to be strengthened. Our daughter who used to average a "C" until Dhruv started tutoring, completed her 10th grade scoring a 102% in her Chemistry Final Examination, in a very rigorous college-preparatory private high school.
Incidentally, the AP-Biology subject that my daughter was pursuing concurrently, required a prior understanding of certain concepts in Chemistry, that Dhruv realized she was lacking and would benefit from. Dhruv supplanted that knowledge as well, which resulted in our daughter passing her AP-Biology Examination with excellent marks! We would recommend Dhruv if you are looking for a patient tutor who will develop an effective learning approach/plan for your child, that will most likely result in your child developing a love for the subject!
Thanks, KV. It was my please to tutor your daughter. I am glad she is shining.
Dhruv is a warm, kind, caring tutor who knows how to encourage and affirm his students. He is very knowledgeable on the subject matter and what I appreciated was how positive he was with my son. His tutoring helped improve my son's exam scores to Bs. I highly recommend Dhruv.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
