Hello,
My name is Katie and I am so excited to have the opportunity to help tutor you!

I was born and raised on the front range of Colorado and have a deep love for the mountains. I was homeschooled until 5th grade when I began attending a charter school. Watching my mom teach my older brother and I sparked a love for learning and led me to want to be a teacher since I was 5 years old. After graduating high school I attended Western State Colorado University where I met my soon-to-be husband. We were married 3 years later and his job offer to Joshua Tree National Park is what brought us to the Southern California area.

At WSCU I fulfilled the requirements for a degree in Geology with an emphasis in Secondary Education in Earth and Space Science. However, to receive my degree and obtain my teaching license, I need to complete a one year residency with a high school class room which I will be starting the fall school semester of 2017. To prepare for the residency year, I completed the required Education 340 class, "Brain-Based Learning, Motivation, and Achievement". Along with this class I attended 25 hours in the local middle school to give me the experience of being in a classroom environment and working one on one with students. I was able to watch and learn from the teacher, help with group projects, attend student meetings and teach several lessons to the class without teacher assistance. I have completed the Praxis I exam and will be testing for the Praxis II exam this summer.

I hope to become a tutor this year until I begin my high school residency. I would absolutely love the experience of working first hand with students. My teaching license will permit me to teach Earth Science, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Ecology and Space Science.

To be educated in Geology, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Ecology and Astronomy, I had to complete a considerable amount of math classes all the way up to Pre-Calculus. So I feel I can be a great help to students even though it is not my primary subject area.

I absolutely love science. I am educated in Geology, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Ecology and Astronomy. Having the knowledge of such a wide range of science has caused me to appreciate the subjects in that they are all connected and help explain the others. Everyone's life is affected by science whether or not they realize it and it is my goal to help develop a sense of awe, wonder and appreciation of the world we live in with everyone around me.

Thank you for you consideration and I look forward to meeting with you and helping your student succeed!
