I have tutored just over 10 children in all subjects, from kindergarten up to 9th grade. I do specialize in mathematics as I have been in 2 Mathalons. I am also focusing my bachelor of arts in the field of finances and accounting. I like and enjoy numbers. However, I also enjoy English and I have taken 4 Advanced Placement level English courses in my high school years. I have also run a Public Speaking/Model United Nations club at a local middle school which involved about 40 children.
In order to create an efficient tutoring environment, I like to first get to know the child, and then see where the child stands, and what level we need to start at, regardless of the subject. I love children, I have a lot of young children in my family. I am very good with children, and also very patient. While my specialties are math, English, and public speech, I am very open and I love to teach as a whole!
I have always enjoyed math. I have taught elementary math, logic, prealgebra, and probability before. I have participated in 2 Mathalons in which I was on the logic and probability team. I also have scored above 600 on my SAT math section. I have taken Algebra, Prealgebra, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, AP Calculus, and Business Calculus throughout my middle and high school years. I enjoy math, and that is what makes me good at it. I am also passionate as a math tutor.
I scored 700 on my SAT Writing section. I have always been very good at grammar and writing. I took AP Language and AP Literature in high school, and I passed both AP exams.
I will be happy to answer any questions you may have for me. I generally am most available Fridays through Sundays, however, if needed, I am willing to work around my schedule on weekdays. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
In my high school years, I was in the Model United Nations debate club for 4 years. I also held the position of Director of OPI (Office of Public Instruction) for 2 years. I also created and taught a MUN club at a local middle school with 40 middle school students. In the club, we focused on expanding their public speaking skills. In my curriculum, I would provide each student with a topic and give them questions that they would need to answer about the topic. Their answers would become a speech. Each student would then give a speech. I would give constructive feedback with every speech. Also, I had students work in group activities and prepare group speeches as well.
