I have been in Nursing for 30 years & have also instructed Vocational Nursing students in the classroom & clinical settings. I love Nursing and wish to instill that love of Nursing into the next generation of Nurses. But along with the love of Nursing there must be common sense, logic & critical thinking. Critical thinking is essential in the successful completion of the NCLEX. I nurture not only the learning of the facts of A&P and Nursing Science, but the abilities of common sense, logic & critical thinking.
The expectations I have for my students are to have them be present & focused to the task at hand. I will require independent study as well as interactive discussion of tutoring material during each tutoring session. The student will need to be ready & willing to ask questions as well as answer them. I use discussion, PowerPoint, and written material to aid the student in meeting their educational goals.

Katherine was knowledgeable and helpful in the area I needed assistance with but she unfortunately spent over 30 minutes talking about her personal stories that were not related to my medication calculation questions. I was constantly trying to politely get her to focus back on my math problems and not talk about her. I was therefore very disappointed to be spending $50 an hour to be listening to someone chat about themselves and personal stories. I just think that if she wants to share information and stories about herself then at least do it "off the clock."
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
