My passion in physics and math is in teaching and outreach. I get to work with so many people from diverse backgrounds, which is amplified as I transition into online tutoring. Also, teaching is the best way for me to learn, so tutoring is a partially selfish effort. In May, I received my Masters in Physics from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. My wife and I are now living in a van on the mainland. She is a researcher at the University of Hawaii’s Institute for Astronomy, and I am now committed to tutoring full-time.

My plan for any online tutoring session is to understand specifically where the student is struggling, and help those areas. My favorite is working with students on a regular basis, but I enjoy one-off sessions, too. I focus on teaching students how to approach problems, and then applying that approach to context-rich questions. Communication before and after the actual tutoring sessions will help build an individualized plan for each student.

Below is more of my background and previous teaching experience.

I started by professionally tutoring in 2013 while pursuing my BS in Physics at Towson University. I was President of the Society of Physics Students for two years, where I made local teaching and outreach a priority. This culminated in a program called Science Friday. Every Friday, a few fellow physics majors and I went to the Hampden Family Center in Baltimore to educate elementary-aged kids in science. This program was a huge success, winning the Marsh White Award for scientific outreach and education.

I was also lucky enough to be involved in Reading Partners, which pairs tutors with students in Baltimore who are struggling with or behind in reading. Two days a week, I worked with a student through pre-constructed exercises designed to help the student catch up in reading. Although this was tutoring in low-level reading, seeing and using the exercises prepared by professionals helped my physics and math tutoring.

After graduating, I moved to San Diego, CA, and started tutoring on W

Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

I took Algebra 2 my freshman year of high school. I have had to apply these concepts every year in my subsequent math and physics courses, so I understand them very well.
Calculus,

Calculus

I took AP Calculus AB as a Junior in high school, and Calculus 2 and 3 at a Cecil Community College my senior year of high school. I then used the concepts I learned every following year in my physics and math classes. Other calculus math classes I took en route to my Minor in Mathematics were Differential Equations, Differential Geometry, Linear Algebra, and Fourier Analysis.
Physics,

Physics

I recently graduated with a degree in Physics. I have a deep understanding of the Math and Physics concepts obtained in lower-level physics courses and applied in upper-level physics courses.
