As a certificated high school teacher in social sciences, an elementary school art teacher, and most importantly, a mom, I understand the process of learning, and I love teaching. I taught at the elementary and high school levels, and I have tutored individual students. I currently teach art at a private art studio.
I love the "lightbulb moment" in teaching and tutoring. My high school history students said they learned more from my classes than any other history classes they had taken. I make an effort to connect with each student, and to make my explanations clear and understandable.
I have undergraduate and graduate training in social sciences, as well as a deep love of history. I have a secondary teaching credential in social sciences and art, and I taught world history to middle school students and U.S. History to high school students. I have also tutored students in history.
I have been an artist nearly all of my life, and I have an AA degree in art and art history. For the past several years, I have been a docent at the San Diego Museum of Art, which entails a two year training process - the equivalent of a masters degree in art history. I have a multi-volume library of art history books, and I have traveled throughout Europe and Asia visiting art museums and public art sites.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
