About Dr Clara

As a former elementary (grades 3 and 4), teacher and an elementary school principal I am qualified to tutor students. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education. I also hold advanced degrees in administration and supervision. I spent 16 years as a successful elementary school principal. My life theme is "Be the Difference" because I believe that it is important to do more than "make a difference". Sometimes we have to be the difference. For this reason, I am committed to do all I can to ensure that every student has academic success. I am enthusiastic and passionate about learning and believe it is important to do more than teach students to read. We must help them read to learn.

As a math tutor, my goal is to connect learning math with living life. I will give purpose to skills. I hold degrees in elementary education, spent more than 30 years working in elementary education and 13 of those years in the classroom. As a principal, I periodically taught to ensure my skills stayed up to date. Parents were eager to get their students into my classroom and/or into my schools. Student and staff morale was consistently high. My schools were great places to work and learn.

My background in education provides the technical skills in elementary education. Although it has been a few years since my classroom teaching days, I still hear from former students (now adults) applauding their learning experience while in my classroom. Tutoring is about more than the technical skills, it also works to help students garner the will to learn. This requires passion and creativity to find ways to connect with the student being tutored, I will find a way! Together we will be successful!

Failure is not an option for your student or for me, the tutor. I will not give up and together we will find the road to success. Let's work together to ensure success.
Together we can do this.
For your student, this tutoring experience will "BE THE DIFFERENCE."

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I hold multiple degrees in education, have more than 30 years of experience including special education experience. I have worked with students who have diagnosed as severe multiple handicapped, hearing impaired, ADD, ADHD and emotionally disturbed. I have been successful in all areas, partially because I am kind, patient and creative. This is especially important with ADHD students as they have difficulty focusing and can be aggressive. Working with ADHD students requires the ability to adjust how lessons are presented as much or maybe more than adjusting the skill level.

Elementary (K-6th)

As a former elementary (grades 3 and 4) teacher and an elementary school principal I am qualified to tutor students. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education. I also hold advanced degrees in administration and supervision. I spent 16 years as a successful elementary school principal. During my tenure as principal, schools demonstrated significant improvement in student achievement and parent involvement.

English

As a former, teacher and an elementary school principal I am qualified to tutor students. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education. I also hold advanced degrees in administration and supervision. I spent 16 years as a successful school principal. My life theme is "Be the Difference" because I believe that it is important to do more than "make a difference". Sometimes we have to be the difference. For this reason, I am committed to do all I can to ensure that every student has academic success. I am enthusiastic and passionate about learning and believe that communication is critical. For that reason, all students must be proficient in reading, writing and speaking English.

Phonics

Phonics is a basic to learning to read. I hold a BS in elementary education and spent 13 years as an elementary classroom teacher. I provided staff development workshops for Head Start teachers for 7 years. For 16 years I provided leadership for two elementary (k-4) schools, directly supervising teachers. All of my schools showed significant improvement in student achievement. I have taught several children to read in 1:1 settings.
Students who learn phonics become better readers. I am thankful that the education system recognizes this fact.
