About Vanessa

As a former Doctor of Veterinary Medicine student, I am not only passionate about helping animals and their owners, but also in the sciences. I apply the sciences, including biology, anatomy and math in my everyday work as a veterinary technician. I have always enjoyed teaching others, whether it be at my job or at school. I find joy in helping others succeed and would be delighted to be your tutor in the areas of : biology, anatomy, microbiology, physiology and statistics. I was admitted to UC Davis for animal science, a rigorous program where I was exposed to a plethora of science courses, including biochemistry, physics, chemistry, anatomy, physiology, biology, nutrition and genetics and feel confident in helping you meet your academic goals!

I respectfully declined my seat at a veterinary school last year and I'm currently pursuing a Masters in the wonderful field of Occupational Therapy. As part of my preparatory work for graduate school, I have volunteered at two schools with over 80 hours of work experience helping students, ages 4-22 meet their occupational therapy goals.

The sciences fascinate me and there is nothing more rewarding than understanding what you are learning in class and applying it to the real world in your field of interest. I'm a current student myself, so I understand the stress you're going through and empathize fully!

I do not have tutoring experience, but I have a lifelong love of learning and rigorous study under my belt. I am confident that I will be a good resource to help you excel in your courses. For a 20-something-year-old, I have much life experience--especially after switching careers! Not only can I help with your academics, but I find myself to also be a wonderful mentor. I am a very patient individual and take joy in helping others. As is evident in my many hours of volunteer work--in animal hospitals serving the lower-income and homeless population and helping athletes with physical disabilities learn soccer. I am also happy to have interned at Kaiser Permanente, an amazing program I think all pre-med students could benefit from.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Anatomy

I am a graduate of UC Davis where I took a plethora of science courses and was admitted to veterinary school last year. As a former DVM student and a soon-to-be graduate Occupational Therapy student, I am extremely passionate about the sciences, learning in general and teaching. I am qualified to tutor anatomy because I understood the material covered in class, which earned me an A in the course. In addition, I apply anatomy in my everyday work which allows me to practice it daily in an animal hospital.

Biology

I've taken the biological series required for medical/veterinary school-- such a fascinating subject! Sometimes students just need a different perspective, or different approach to understand biology--I'm confident I can provide that for you to help you succeed. If you're pre-med/pre-vet you will see topics covered in biology time and time again , I can help you become comfortable with the material!
