About Sara

My love for learning comes from my undergraduate studies and the research lab I was a member of. I recently graduated with summa cum laude from the University of California, Irvine. While there I worked as a research lab member and focused on conducting surveys and analyzing data related to stress. I love exploring new subjects and searching for answers to everyday curiosity. During that time, I also worked as behavioral therapist where I worked one-on-one with children with special needs. Tutoring was a big part of our one-on-one sessions. I enjoyed that job very much because it enabled me to watch the patients learn and grow. In the past, I have tutored my cousins and younger brother. Their areas of focus were writing and math. I take great pride in knowing I've helped them achieve top scores on their exams. I want to expand my experiences and reach out to other students as well. The subjects I love teaching are writing, English, and math.

I am very confident in my tutoring abilities; I know what it takes to earn straight A's and will work hard to help clients do the same. I will spend as much time as needed on any given problem. After session, I will assign homework to the student as needed. Even after session is over, I welcome students to message me with any additional questions they have. I reply within a few hours or less because I believe the session doesn't stop until the student fully understands the material.

I can teach Pre-algebra, Algebra 1 and elementary Math.

I have a great love for English. I've taken honors English courses, and have always earned straight A's in all my English courses.

Looking forward to hearing from you and helping you achieve success in your studies! Feel free to ask me any questions. I am free Monday-Thursday and charge $30 per hour.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary Math

I tutored elementary math for five years.

Handwriting

I joined an occupational-therapy based writing program. These kids were having difficulty improving their handwriting. I was trained to use different techniques in order to help the children improve. At the end of the 4-week course, all the children had successfully improved their handwriting skills

Prealgebra

I have earned A's in all my math courses, including Prealgebra.

Proofreading

I took AP English in high school and received an A. In college, a lot of the focus of the English 1 focused on correcting other people's papers. I earned an A in that class. As a nanny and behavioral therapist, I always checked over the homework of the kids I worked with.

Spelling

Spelling is a big part of the GRE and I studied 800-1,000 new words to prepare for it. I earned a 157 in the qualitative section. I always had to check for spelling when working as a nanny and tutor.

Vocabulary

Vocabulary is a big part of the GRE and I studied 800-1,000 new words to prepare for it. I earned a 157 in the qualitative section. I earned A's in all my English courses.
