Bio

Hi. I'm so thrilled that you want to learn Japanese.

My name is Yoko which means "sun's child" in Kanji (Chinese characters). My parents chose this name for me so that I could have a cheerful and happy life.

Learning a language should be a fun experience. Isn't it fantastic that you will be able to communicate with people that you never imagined you'd be able to speak with? You will have the opportunity to experience a new and different culture! That's exciting!

Math has always been my favorite subject. It may be something to do with my background of coming from Japan. I scored top 10% on SAT and even had an offer to purse an engineering degree at University of Massachusetts when I graduated from high school. Although I ended up getting a degree in a different field, my passion in teaching grew while I was in graduate school. For the past ten years, I have been teaching math to K through 8th grade students as a tutor.

I have volunteered at my children's high school to help students with study skills and their organization for the past 7 years. Also, since I have two children, I have helped them with their study skills when they were in middle school and high school as well and they have been doing very well.

Great tutor!

I started getting Japanese lessons from Yoko to prepare for the SAT Japanese Subject Test. From our first lesson, she was very engaged in helping me. She is always prepared, organized, and I enjoyed my lessons with her. Yoko will make sure you know what you are doing, and she is very knowledgeable! Not only that, but she is also kind and understanding. I would highly recommend her to anyone seeking a Japanese tutor.

Yoko-san is a fantastic teacher!

I am very fortunate to have met Yoko-san. Her depth of experience was clear to me during our first meeting. She was able to quickly gauge my skill level and help me focus on areas giving me the most trouble. She is always well prepared, and is able to customize our lessons based on my feedback. For example, she has provided handouts with vocabulary and dialogues specific to my industry, and others which help clarify grammar points that are sometimes only glossed over in my main textbook. I have had a wonderful experience working with Yoko-san. Her patience, mastery of the material, and individualized approach to our lessons has been a tremendous help to me in learning Japanese.

GREAT Japanese Tutor for All Ages

I was very skeptical my daughter would maintain her desire to learn Japanese, since the language is so different from her native English. However, she has not only stayed focused on her desire to learn more about the language and the culture,...she is genuinely excited and can't wait to show me what she has learned after each lesson. Yoko is the source of my daughter's excitement about learning Japanese, and I am SO happy we found her. Because she is a native speaker AND she worked in the local school disctrict, she brings a unique balance of patience and understanding to new students of Japanese. My daughter can be easily disappointed when she is not progressing fast enough, or is struggling with learning something new,...but Yoko has managed to keep my daughter calm and still push her at a steady pace - I am SO impressed with her progress in such a short time. If you are considering a Japanese tutor, then I would strongly receommend you consider Yoko as your language guide - she's FANTASTIC !!
