About Raul

I have a PhD from the University of Kansas Medical School. I am currently a University professor with expertise ranging from doing ecological work in the tropical jungles around the world studying biodiversity to looking at gene expression and embryonic development of vertebrates. In particular, I study the evolution and development of reptile and amphibian body plans. I am a big fan of having a broad breadth in all scientific disciplines and am always learning new lab techniques and immersing myself in new fields of study. I would like to instill in anyone that i interact with that all scientific disciplines eventually overlap and help one understand the world a lot better and make science a lot more fun.

I am a leader in my field and combine all my disciplines into designing innovative research projects. Thus, i put my knowledge of science into practice and am very up to date on what is occurring in the field. This not only makes me a great professor and researcher but also gives me an added tool set by which to communicate with those i tutor. I also manage a lab and have researchers that work for me so have a lot of experience in training and teaching in a 1 on 1 environment.

I am very social and have a lot of knowledge in many disciplines. I make tutoring fun and always strive to not only help the student learn the material, but think beyond the material and exam and master the subject.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Genetics

I do research in biomedical genetics. I teach University level Genetics and Developmental Genetics. I am active in developing lab tools and using them to understand how the vertebrate body develops and has evolved.

Zoology

I teach a University course in Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy. In the lab I also work on all major groups of amniotes as well as cephalopods so bridge the vertebrate and invertebrate realms. I am also writing a book on reptile embryonic development. I have a PhD from the University of Kansas Medical School.
