About Cindy

At present I work as an Instructional Assistant II at a high school with students in a regular education Chemistry class. This year I assist in Special Day Class focused on Biology and a regular education class focused on Earth Science. I have worked at the high school for 7 years. I worked another 2 years at a continuation school prior to my present position. At the continuation school, I worked with the economics, science, and history teachers. My main focus at present is Science however I can do basic algebra and have English experience. I home schooled my son 6th-8th grade. When home schooling, I had to instruct all subjects. We also added religious studies to the curriculum.

Learning should be fun. It is hard work sometimes. I don't believe every student learns the same way. I learn best by doing. I believe students learn best when they are allowed to use what they love to understand the subjects they need to learn. For example; math in the garden: Measure an area, build a raised bed and fill with dirt. Fractions are best learned cooking or in my son's case it was batting averages.

I am an animal lover. My favorite indoor animal is a cat. My favorite outdoor animal is a horse. I have ridden horses for over 25 years. I love to do crafts of all kinds. I knit, crochet, embroider, sew, bake and cook. I love to garden and compost. I keep red wigglers (worms) for composting and fertilizing. I have raised sheep and cattle. I enjoy recycling. I can create just about anything. I craft with recycle items. I find ideas and make them my own.

Can't doesn't exist in my world. If there is a will there is a way. I do believe what YOU believe is what you can achieve. I set high goals in hopes that my students will achieve what I hope them to achieve. "Never judge a book by it's cover." You miss so much in doing so. "Not everything that glitters is gold." Some people wear faces to deceive you. Honesty is the best policy. Saying I don't know means you are willing to learn. Most of all I believe there are no dumb questions however the unasked question IS a dumb question. Questions are the key to life. Knowing where to find answers are another valuable key. You don't need to KNOW all the answers but you should be able to find them.

I look forward to getting to know you better and working with you. Success is the continuous journey to pre-determined goals. As long as you continue to go forward you will succeed.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Cooking

I can teach basic cooking. When I home schooled my son, this was part of his math and reading curriculum. I love to experiment with food and have made some interesting changes to a basic recipe. I keep kosher and understand diet restrictions. I have been cooking meals for my family and guests for over 30 years.

Needlework

I can do basic knitting, crochet, needle point, embroidery, cross stitch and counted cross stitch. I have been doing this most of my life about 20+ years. I am very creative and I make my own patterns if necessary. I am right handed. I taught a special needs student, who is left handed, how to crochet and she has taken it to a new level. She creates her own patterns and items. Recently, I helped a friend re-learn how to do needlepoint.

Sewing

I learned to sew in Jr. High. I did not pick it back up until right before my son was born back in 1990's. Then I jumped right in and my first project was his crib set and a quilt. Since then I have made cushion covers for my coffee table, curtains for friends, table cloths, mantle runners, and Torah covers. I have managed to make quite a few quilts and quillows. I can do a basic items. I have made costumes, clothes, and specialty religious items. I even managed to make a guitar case one Hanukkah for my son. I created the pattern. As long as you have a machine that works, I'm sure we can sew something up.

Special Needs

I have worked for the last 7 years at a public high school in the special education department. I have experience in general education classes as well as special day classes. I worked 6 months (2006-7) in elementary (pre-school) and learned how to use pics. I have had the opportunity to substitute in the bridge program at the high school level. In 2014 I worked grade 1-2 in summer school and in 2015 I was a substitute in many different classes.

Gifted and patient

Cindy did an outstanding job with my daughter, who struggles terribly with Math. Cindy has been so patient and gifted in guiding my daughter to feel like she discovered the correct answer on her own. Cindy was able to instill a confidence in my daughter to make her feel that she is much more capable than she thought. We absolutely LOVE Cindy!!!
