Great teachers run in my family! My mother, brother, and sister are all excellent teachers, and I am a certified substitute teacher, in the process of becoming a full-time teacher myself.
Patience, and the ability to customize lessons to the needs of my students are a strong point of mine. To explain things at the level of the student is imperative to be able to bring them up to speed with the course.
I have an Associate degree from Palomar college, and a Bachelor degree from San Diego State University. I was a Business major in Information Systems, and carried a 4.0 average in my core classes. Depending on the subject matter, I can tutor all grade levels.
My tutoring experience includes tutoring students while I attended Palomar college, and I've often helped my three teenage sons with all types of courses. They all get very good grades.
I would be honored to be your tutor, and look forward to helping you become more successful! Great teachers run in my family! My mother, brother, and sister are all excellent teachers, and I am a certified substitute teacher, in the process of becoming a full-time teacher myself.

My 6 y/o daughter took to Bethina on the first visit and looks forward to her tutoring sessions. Bethina cares about her student and finds ways to encourage learning. She took the time to contact my daughter's teacher to find out exactly what needs to be worked on. I am so happy Bethina is my daughter tutor and her positive and pleasant personality is plus too. She is a gem.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a business degree from San Diego State. All categories of business are covered: Accounting, Finance, Marketing, Information Systems, and Management. I've taken Business Law, and was the Bank of America Business Student of the Year in 1981 at Palomar college. In my 18 years as a programmer analyst, I've studied the intricate details of payroll, cost accounting, finance, manufacturing, and insurance systems.
I have three teenagers and two younger nephews. Over the years, I've helped with homework in all subjects, and volunteered in the elementary classrooms as a teacher's helper. One of my nephews has Asperger's Syndrome, so I am experienced with and have a lot of patience for the special needs child.
I had two and a half years of drama in high school, and another semester in college. I've also been in a few plays. I can teach the basics of stage blocking and some improvisation. I also was a mime for a few years.
I took many semesters of volleyball in college just for the fun of it! I can teach the basics of serving, bumping, setting, spiking, and blocking, as well as the game rules and court positioning.
