I am a former teacher, mathematician, scientist, systems analyst/engineer, software engineer/developer, and program manager.

I have a BS Mathematics (including coursework in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology) and an MS Numerical Methods & Simulation Techniques. In addition to these degrees, I have also completed coursework toward a BS Electrical Engineering degree.

I have taught mathematics for three years with the Drexel University Evening College and the University of MaryLand, European Division, and I spent a year home schooling my younger son in Middle School mathematics. I have tutored students in mathematics from elementary school through college. At the college level, I have tutored mathematics and computer science to students in varying disciplines, including physical sciences, engineering, and business, as well as art & design. I have over 1000 hours teaching and tutoring mathematics, mostly at the college level but also at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.

As a mathematician, scientist, and engineer, I have worked with various offices and organizations of the US Government and with the German Aviation Authority. I have worked in the areas of photo-intelligence, ballistic missile defense, logistics, command & control systems, air traffic control, and modeling and simulation. During my non-academic career, I was a software engineer and developer for over fifteen years and developed software in assembly language/machine code, FORTRAN, COBOL, APL, Pascal, and C.

Although I have retired from full-time work, I feel that I should continue to use my experience and skill base to facilitate the academic career of others. Having taught and mentored many people during my career, I feel that I have the ability and the nature to help students by helping them to understand new material through the acquisition of appropriate vocabulary and practice, by guiding them toward solutions to problems through thought-provoking questions designed to help the student partition problems and to focus atten

Computer Programming,

Computer Programming

I was a software engineer/developer for over 15 years. I have worked with several languages (FORTRAN, COBOL, APL, Pascal, C, Python) as well as assembly language and machine code. I have designed and implemented code for photo-intelligence mensuration and database management systems, simulations of air traffic system inputs for system performance analysis, simulations of air traffic for collision avoidance analysis and for transponder code analysis, and logistic analysis, as well as the design and implementation of a multi-user, multi-task operating system. Because of the lack of availability at the time, I have developed variations of most software packages available today.
Fortran,

Fortran

I have over 6 years of experience developing software in FORTRAN for various scientific and management projects. I developed an assembly language dynamic interface to enable COBOL programs to invoke FORTRAN math routines. I understand FORTRAN syntax and its indexing issues, as well as how FORTRAN is compiled into machine code.
Pascal

Pascal

I was formerly a software engineer/developer with over 15 years of experience developing applications primarily in research and development environments. Among the many languages that I have used, I worked with Pascal for about three years. I primarily used it to implement a collection of air traffic data applications for the graphical display of radar data and flight paths, the detection of potential aircraft collisions, and the analysis of separation and avoidance data.

Knowledgeable and patient!

Dennis has been helping me with an assembly assignment. He is incredibly knowledgeable and patient. He explained some key concept elements to me in a way that is easy to understand and to make sense out of it. Besides teaching me about specific issues in the code, he also helped me look at the assignment in a different way and split it up in different tasks. This allowed me to take a step back and to figure out how to solve it myself. He also shared his experience and provided lots of good recourses. Dennis made himself available for me to call or email whenever I had a question and he clearly cares about helping his students improving their skills and knowledge. I will definitely schedule more sections with him when I need it, and would recommend him to anyone.

Very knowledgeable

Dennis knew the concepts I was learning and was efficiently able to teach them to me. I have learned more from him in one hour than 3 days with my calculus teacher.

Exceptional tutor

Dennis was very patient and knowledgeable tutor. He was able to help my son understand assembler and finish a project that was due in a few days. Dennis was very patient and did a great job explaining the material.

Looking For a Tutor, Look No Further

Dennis was my tutor for an entire semester. He actually began tutoring me before I even selected him by giving me things to consider when selecting a tutor and things to use as resources. I viewed this as someone that actually cared that I was getting what I needed from this service. After reviewing his profile, I knew that he would be a good fit for me. We pretty much had a session scheduled each week. We had a few face to face sessions at the library and later he walked me through an online session which saved me money and saved both of us time. My first session was intimidating because I hadn't done calculus in so long and my previous attempt was a complete disaster.....I FAILED. Dennis started with the basics and slowly reintroduced me to the world of Calculus. One of the most important things he told me was to calm down and just breathe. I tend to easily get really worked up which causes panic and anxiety (which is why I previously failed). In these cases, the answer or the way of working out the problem was usually something simple and I'd miss it because I was busy flipping out. He was very patient and made sure that I understood everything before moving forward. He was flexible and understanding if I needed to reschedule because sometimes life just happens. Before my midterm and final I'd send him the review problems, work through them myself, send him my work and then we'd have a review session. He couldn't have expressed enough how important it is to learn the definitions. That was a big part of the tests that I had to take. Knowing the definitions and terminology really is key. If you're looking for a tutor and you're considering Dennis, then look no further. He's a great person with tons of experience and will work with you to make sure that you are learning and understanding the material. He helped to restore my confidence in myself and my learning ability and also control my anxiety. I finished my final and the class with an A. Thank you so much Dennis! And best of luck to your future students!

Very knowledgeable and patient tutor

I had a lesson with Dennis. He gave a useful explanation and shared valuable information. He reviewed C++ codes and went over the graph results as well. He didn't hesitate to recommend the references that will be helpful. I really recommend having him as a tutor.

Very patient and detailed

He helped me with a Financial Decision marking class. Being new to the information put me at a disadvantage. He cleared it up for me. I have more work to do but he helped me out with guidance for the next set of challenges.

Great intructor

I havent been in school for 12 years and he showed me a what needs to be done and how I should really work on getting to know my terminology for Algebra Class. Thank you Dennis for enlightening me. Keep up the great guidance.

Knowledgeable and reliable tutor

He taught me more about assembly language and how the Arm 7 differs from the 8086 when working with the data and registers. He was patient when we had a few technical issues with the blackboard but was very helpful and used his experience in the field as examples to aid in his explanations

Great Tutor

Dennis has really helped me tremendously with my computer programming course. He has been patient, always available, and really has helped me not fail this class. I am also autistic, and he seems to know how to deal with special needs well, if that is a concern of yours, but regardless of your situation, he is very intelligent, and very fast to respond, and very caring.
