B.S. Engineering (Chemical)
Environmental Engineering (Master's)
My name is William, a retired engineer and now a STEM tutor and part time Math/Science high school teacher. I have a BS in chemical engineering and a master's in environmental/management engineering. I also have over 10 years of actual classroom teaching experience in Chemistry Math/Algebra, Calculus, Geometry/Trigonometry, environmental waste management and chemical engineering. My recent private tutoring work involved some of my family members, relatives, and friends in their high school/college Math and Science classes, allowing them to succeed in their graduation goals on time. I was very successful with my daughter as she finished at the top 10 of her class of about 400 students. She was able to transition herself easily to US high school when we immigrated here few years ago, graduating high school at 16 and becoming a registered nurse at 20.
With these experiences, I strongly believe I could also help your children improve, meet or even exceed their academic goals.
I look forward to working with you and your children. Thanks

William tutored my son in AP chemistry earlier this year. He was very knowledgeable and thorough and was very kind and patient as well. He has a complete mastery of the sciences and I was glad that he was able to help my son.
Thanks so much for your review. I truly appreciate your kind words.
William M is a wonderful tutor. He takes his time to make you understand the subject. He is very friendly and I would recommend him to everyone.
Thanks so much Armen. Really appreciate it.
When I first met William, I've noticed that he was very understanding and has patience because he was a math teacher. After he'd helped and taught me on how to solve the difficult pharmacy technician math calculations on my math homework, I knew how to do the math problems on the tests and my score went up. He gives free advice when I've called him on the phone. We've only discussed and talked about math calculations when we met. He was very helpful and I'm very content that he was my math tutor.
I am just so happy you're doing very well in your class. What I love most working with you is that you're an ideal student and very determined to succeed. Good Luck!
I am extremely satisfied with the quality of the tutor that we have a gauge and I am very impressed with his willingness to go above and beyond the call of duty for my son. Words cannot describe how professional courteous knowledgeable thoughtful friendly and ready to help us. My compliments and congratulations for an excellent excellent service and of extraordinary tutor.
Thanks for your very nice comments Stephen. I'm humbled by these words.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have passed the CBEST in 2003 on my first and only attempt. I only had a limited amount of time preparing or reviewing for this test as I was only a temporary visitor in 2003 in Los Angeles. Nonetheless, I did well in both Reading and Writing (essays) but I got a very high rating in Numerical Ability (Mathematics) which was expected due to my engineering background.
Since then, I have helped a number of students who attempted to take CBEST. Majority of them also passed the test at their first attempt. Only very few needed a second attempt to improve their scores.
I have also used this CBEST experience in helping some community college students who are struggling in their English writing and composition courses and even in writing some of their papers in other courses like Philosophy, Political Science, and History.
I am generally a good test taker, and I always take any test in which I qualify.
I have been a chemical engineer for around 25 years now. I obtained my bachelor's degree (evaluated as U.S. equivalent) from a foreign country (magna cum laude). I took and passed the chemical engineer's licensing board where I ranked one of top 10 successful examinees. Soon after that I worked as chemical engineer in the chemical industry, and at the same time had a part time college teaching work in chemical engineering, chemistry, algebra, geometry and engineering economics.
Having gone through the rigorous steps in the licensing processes, I also helped some of my students prepare for the licensing examinations. Through these years of teaching, I have seen a number of my former college students went on to finish college, got their degrees, and succeed professionally. I take pride in being part of their success.
With my students early success in their academic goals, I found teaching just as rewarding and fulfilling as with actual engineering practice. And since then, I always made sure I had a part time teaching job while working in industry.
Due to my burning desire for advancement, I went on to pursue graduate studies in management and later in environmental engineering. Both of these additional degrees complement and supplement my interests in chemical engineering. Soon after that, I then went on to serve as part time graduate school lecturer for 7 years on selected topics in chemical, environmental, and wastewater engineering.
In addition to my chemical engineering education, I have studied for a year the pharmacy technician course at LAUSD - Technical Education Division in 2006. Subsequently, I took the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) in Nov 2006 and passed it easily (89%), in which I got an excellent score in calculations/drug dosage section.
I have also taken a semester's course in Pharmacology at a community college in 2011.
I have also tutored recently my daughter and her friends who were taking a Pharmacy Technician course. My daughter also passed the PTCB test with high marks. I am very good at calculations and this is where my students benefit the most. I can also do pharmaceutical chemistry. All of them were successful.
I shall be glad to send you a copy of my PTCB rating/certificate if necessary.
I have 3 certificates of proficiency from the Los Angeles Unified School District's (LAUSD) Technical Education Department's QuickBooks Accounting course in early 2007 - one in computerized accounting, one in advanced computerized accounting (QuickBooks), and one in Business Math. Because of this QuickBooks proficiency certificate, I was able to work as Part Time Bookkeeper at a construction company in Los Angeles from November 2007 up to the present. I also have another part time bookkeeping job that uses QuickBooks accounting at a small service business since 2010. Hence, I am confident, I can teach QuickBooks accounting to my students.
To update my 1989 MBA degree, I have successfully taken and passed (A's) 21 units in College Accounting classes including a 3-unit course in QuickBooks Accounting. While in college, I had the chance to tutor some of the students in accounting and the use/navigation of ProQuickBooks accounting software.
I have the skills and experience to tutor students in this discipline (TEAS) because I myself have demonstrated passing this test at one try in July 2010 with an above average passing score of 88.8% and a national percentile rank of 97%. Of particular interest, I did very well in Math (99%), Science(98%), English (90%), and Reading (66%).
Should you deem it necessary, I can forward you a copy of my TEAS results.
I have privately coached a relative and 2 friends and provided them tips about taking TEAS test. They were happy and they passed it on their first attempt.
I attributed my success to this test to my strong background in the sciences and math. My tutoring experience in math and the sciences plus my 10 years classroom teaching experience are added advantages for me in tutoring students on TEAS.
