Hello future student! I am pleased that you are reading my profile. Let me share a little bit about myself. My name is Helen. I received my Master of Arts in Philosophy, from San Francisco State University, with honors, and an award for academic excellence. As a graduate student, I taught a class in Critical Thinking.
Also, I received my Bachelor of Arts, with High Distinction, from Deree College, in Athens, Greece. While in Greece, I obtained two ESL certificates, and taught ESL at a center for foreign languages, and in private settings.
I tailor my methods to each individual. Usually, I will ask you to provide me with a description of your projects, the books or class materials you are using, and, if possible, a course outline. Then, I make a detailed outline of how we can approach your projects, such that you can get the most out of them, and complete them with success. Since everyone learns differently, we will adopt a learning method that works best for you. Hello future student! I am pleased that you are reading my profile. Let me share a little bit about myself. Helen and I discussed about Greek philosophy, particularly Plato. We discussed the teachings of Plato. I was particularly interested in understanding about the root of human behavior including violence causing interpersonal trauma. We discussed about the inner strength every human has and their capacity for healing.
It was interesting to discuss about the true nature of love and the associated pathology.
Helen is proactive, keen to teach, open to learn and has a non judgmental attitude.
Helen has helped me achieve a start to my learning ancient Greek philosophy as it relates to human nature, trauma & our innate capacity to heal. I will look forward to learning from her.
I believe Helen is an extraordinary teacher. She has a special talent to teach, she is very confidence, knowledgeable and organized. Indeed, she is the best private tutor I ever had.
Helen is the best tutor I have ever met! She knows what I am weak at and always offers me efficient help of writing! With her help, I got all A for the essays I worked with her! I will definitely recommend her to my friends!
I have had bad luck in the past with tutors, but then I went to Helen. Helen gives a detailed lesson how to write detailed thesis statements and well refined topic sentences. She is a wonderful teacher.

We had our first session to get introduced to Greek. Helen was wonderful. In one session she introduced me to the Greek alphabet, the pronunciation of each letter, and example words. I very quickly realized the value of a live tutor over just using the Internet. I had watched YouTube videos and visited several "Intro to Greek" websites. They all have different ways of pronouncing and demonstrating Greek alphabet and words. Gets quite confusing. We also went over basic phrases in Greek - Hello, How are you, Good morning, Good evening, I am sorry, my name is, what is your name, etc. Helen also carefully and clearly wrote down the alphabet, words, and phrases. For each she wrote the Greek, an English transliteration, and the English equivalent.
I had a very educational session, and it was a lot of fun too.
Great tutor! Look forward to a couple more sessions before my trip.
After my trip I hope to be able to read Socrates, in the original (Plato), someday.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I taught English as a Second Language in Greece for over 3 years. Also, I have two certificates that qualify me as an ESOL instructor, abroad. The first certificate is the Certificate of Proficiency in English, awarded by the University of Michigan, English Language Institute. The second certificate is the Certificate of Proficiency in English, awarded with honors, by the University of Cambridge, ESOL examinations.
I speak and write fluent Modern Greek. I have a high school diploma from the Lyceum of Molaoi, a Greek public high school, in Greece.
I studied philosophy where it all began, in Athens, Greece. After receiving my Bachelor of Arts, with high distinction, I went even further, and studied philosophy at the graduate level in San Francisco. I received my Master of Arts degree with a 4.0, and a distinguished achievment award for academic excellence. Most importantly, I love this stuff!
