I am an experienced Spanish and elementary school teacher who has received many awards for her success in improving students' reading and writing skills. I hold a CA Multiple Subject Teaching Credential which qualifies me to teach all the subjects in the elementary school curriculum. My success as a teacher gave me the opportunity to become, on one occasion, the reading specialist of the entire school and, on another occasion, the school principal, a position I held for five years. Currently I am a university supervisor working with student teachers for San Jose State University, San Jose,
I not only tutor conversational Spanish for adults but also middle and high school Spanish. In addition I specialize in preparing k-6 students attending dual immersion programs. i am native speaker of Spanish which enables me to provide my students with an excellent model of the spoken and written languages. I use a very interactive teaching method that immediately engages and motivates students and as a result they learn Spanish easily and without pressure.
My educational background has supported me greatly during my entire professional career by making me feel successful at all times. I am a graduate from one of the most distinguished institutions of higher education in the country: Teachers College, Columbia University, New York City. It was there where I earned a Masters Degree and a Doctorate in Education (Ed.D.) with emphasis in the education of language teachers.
As your tutor I welcome you to a quiet and positive learning environment in which every teaching strategy I use and every learning activity I organize will reinforce not only your desire to learn but also your motivation to study. I create this positive environment on the basis of respect, responsibility and the reassurance that you will succeed. I have a motto "you can and will succeed" in your subject matter. This motto is real and entirely supported by my vast professional experience and solid educational background.
Marta, Ed.D. I am an experienced Spanish and elementary school teacher who has received many awards for her success in improving students' reading and writing skills. I hold a CA Multiple
My daughter had a Spanish test and needed some help. Although Marta was already booked, she managed to squeeze in 30 mins to meet with my daughter to help her with some questions she had to prep for her test. We appreciated that.
Helping me improve my Written English communication which includes grammar and vocabulary. I had only 2 classes and i am already feeling the improvement.
She is helping with my writing. Her knowledge is improving my writing skills. I am so happy to be working w her. She is amazing,
We are so very thankful to Ms. Marta for being so patient with our daughter. She explained everything in such a way that our daughter could understand and quickly pick up. Our daughter caught up in class after only a few lessons. She now feels confident enough in class to participate more. Ms. Marta teaching style put our daughter at ease with learning Spanish. There was no pressure, no judgment, and no stress. Thank you!
I am a working professional, and am able to read and write English. I wanted to work on becoming more proficient in my writing. Mrs. Marta really helped; with her experience, guidelines, and directions, I see the difference in a few lessons.
She possesses really good teaching skills and high qualifications. She always values my time. The beautiful part about her lessons is that she makes every minute count, so after an hour lesson you feel you have learned a lot.
We had our quarterly progress report from school last week for my 2nd grader who is struggling in a Spanish/English dual immersion program. At her first progress report of the year, she was reading at a mid-kindergarten level in both English and Spanish, not even attempting to communicate in Spanish during class, and telling me often that she is the slowest kid in the class and hating it.
After 3 months with Marta, she has been tested at a mid 1st grade level in Spanish, and an early second grade level in English. That is over a year's worth of progress in two languages in 3 months! Even better than that, she is speaking in class, and developing some confidence interacting with her teachers and fellow students. And best of all, she just seems happier, and runs to Marta excited and ready for tutoring every single time. We are profoundly grateful for Marta's support and expertise in reading and speaking both English and Spanish!
Senora Marta is not only a patient tutor, but she is also a kind and caring person. I'm happy with my lesson with her and have an assurance that I will meet my Spanish goal of proficiency.
She prepared materials for me during my session and had materials for me to take home. I am confident Marta will give me skills and tools to pass the CBEST!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I hold a CA Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from Santa Clara University. As one of the requirements for this credential, I passed the CBEST. I also hold a Doctorate in Education and a masters degree in the Teaching of English to Speakers of Other Language (TESOL) and in the preparation of language teachers. I received training in the teaching of reading and writing from experts in the field such as Lucy Cockins at Teachers College and Frank Smith at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, Toronto, Canada. In addition, I have worked with student-teachers for six years. I am currently a part-time faculty at San Jose State University working as a university supervisor for student teachers.
I hold a Calfornia Multiple-Subject Teaching Credential that qualifies me to teach all the subjects in the California elementary (k-8) school curriculum. I have more than 20 years of successful teaching experience. My success is measured by many awards I have received over the years mainly because of my ability to improve my students' reading and writing skills. In addition, my success as a teacher gave me the opportunity, on one occasion, to become the reading specialist of the entire school, and on another occasion, to become the school principal, a position I held for 5 years.
My success as a teacher is based not only on my natural teaching ability but also on my extensive educational background. I have a masters and a doctorate in education from Teachers College, Columbia University, and I have completed the course work for a Masters of Arts in Applied Linguistics.
I have more than twenty years of teaching experience. I hold a Ca. teaching credential and a master's and doctorate in education from Teachers College, Columbia University. I have received may awards for improving my students' reading and writing skills. As part of my strategies to help them improve their academic performance, I teach them how to study and learn. These two skills involve learning how to study, getting organized and being ready to learn. In addition, I explained to the students, the process that they follow when they are learning. The importance of making them conscious of the learning process is essential to getting them ready to study and learn.
