Queens College, NY (Computer Science)
I hold a single subject teaching credential in math. I have tutored students from elementary to high school math subjects. I aim to know my students, set practical goals, engage the students during instruction, have students practice in problem solving, and gauge student learning with assessments. Most students can achieve the goal they set if they truly put their minds to it. I will try to help you arrive at those goals if you will work with me regularly, spend time doing practice work and be focused on the goals you set for yourself.
I worked as a database application support specialist for years and before that a computer application programmer. My enthusiasm for math came from my teachers in secondary schools and college despite the fact that I studied computer science as my major in college. I achieved my goals for college and the goal of becoming a certificated teacher in math. What are your academic goals? I will try to help you achieve those goals by improving your leaning in math.

My kids liked Huey-Ming because she was very calm and thorough and patient. We're going to continue with her because she knows the material and has taught Algebra and seems to explain things in a manner they can understand.
Huey-Ming tutors my freshman daughter who is taking an honors geometry class. She is patient and knowledgeable, and my daughter gets a lot out of the sessions. Huey-Ming takes the time to understand what my daughter is working on and what will help her the most. She will also find extra resources when tackling topics that may not be covered in other geometry classes, which I really appreciate. I highly recommend her!
Huey-Ming is an excellent tutor. She is very patient and knowledgeable. My daughter took a couple of classes with her and would recommend Ming to anyone who needs help with their math.
Very patient with kids and kid friendly. It was our first session, my daughter enjoyed her who was against math in first place.
We worked with Huey-Ming one time. My daughter thought she was very kind. She was very open to feedback and wanting to adjust to our needs.
I so appreciate Huey-Ming. She spent extra time to go over the topics to ensure that I understood them. She is patient and easily adapts to her learner. I thinks she does very well as a teacher, and I would surely recommend her again.
Huey-Ming was so helpful in getting my daughter back on track in her Algebra 2 class. She was patient and though. My daughter really liked the way she explained things. My daughters confidence is so much better. Huey-Ming worked around my daughters busy schedule in making appointments. I will continue to use her as needed for test preparation and concepts my daughter will need help on.
My daughter is very happy with Huey-Ming, she feels understood and encouraged by Huey-Ming's knowledge and explanations on the subject matter.
Huey-Ming was very kind and had a great experience on how to build a relationship with my son. She also know how to find kid's weakness and help him improve in the areas he need it most. Thanks
My son has got B from his Geometry Honor class in 9th grade, and we have been wondering why for 2 months (half a semester) already. And Huey-Ming went over past tests with him, and helped to find out his weakness in reasoning using close but not exactly correct theorems or definitions, and other errors from not having read the question carefully or careless mistakes. She also gave very good suggestions regarding how to improve. It really helps a lot, and she is a very experienced math tutor.
My son has had three meetings with Huey-Ming.
It is early days yet to see a result, but in terms of how comfortable he is with Ms. Huey-Ming's etching I would say he is happy indeed.
When I realized that my son needed a math tutor for his Algebra 2, I had no ideas where I could find a good one for him. Fortunately we were very lucky to search through WyzAnt and Huey-Ming was the one show up in the search and I spot at first, her review was very good but I had not had any tutors for my kid before; so I thought since her review looked great I could give a try. After contacting her, she replied quickly and agreed to help my son though my schedule was really tight. The first lesson turned out was very good that my son got a lot of help so we decided to ask Huey-Ming to help more. All lessons with Huey-Ming all were excellent and every time I checked with my son after the lesson, he told me the lesson was really helpful. She did a good preparation for each lesson. Here is what I got from my son on her teaching:
1. she was really patient to listen to him and could understand what he was stuck at
2. she explained everything so clear that helped him to have the best understanding
Huey-Ming has been our son’s tutor in algebra and geometry for the last three years, and we have seen a dramatic improvement in his performance in school.
Our son is a bit shy and has low confidence when it comes to math, and Huey-Ming has a good personality that gets him to participate and learn. In addition, Huey-Ming is always flexible when we need her to come on short notice before a big test, which is important since we don’t always know when our son will need extra help.
I would strongly recommend her if you have a child struggling in math.
Ms. H is a very patient and passionate tutor. When she taught my son, she encouraged him to try, ask, and practice in order to figure out math problems. She has good skills to communicate with my son. Ms. H inspired my son's interest in Geometry but also gave him confidence in math.
Mrs. H. is a very patient and knowledgeable tutor. My 6th grade daughter is learning useful material that helps her at school.
She is great and provides an in depth summary of the work she has done with my daughter. She is easy to learn from and my daughter loves her style. She also has developed a curriculum for my daughter that she will complete by the end of the school year that will enable my daughter to be 1 full year ahead in math. My daughter actually looks forward to her learning sessions; she leaves the sessions feeling really smart!
Also, several times I have been late coming to get my daughter because my work schedule changes. I am so comforted because she always sends me a text saying "don't rush, don't worry everything is okay; take your time." In addition to being the best tutor my daughter has had, she has a wonderful attitude!
Ming is a wonderful tutor. I had a previous tutor from wyzant, although she was good she did not help me understand the formulas and help me develop a way to understand my homework like Ming does. I would recommend Ming to anyone who needs help with their math. I went from a 55% on my test before Ming to a 98% on my following test after being tutored by Ming.
Huey Ming is my grandson's first tutor in 6th grade math and we are very satisfied with her abilities. She is prompt, professional and very patient. She cares about his progress and provides helpful reviews after each lesson. With her help, my grandson has become more confident in math. Would recommend.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught and tutored high school students as well as middle students in algebra 1. For students to learn to solve real life problems using linear equations and graphs is interesting and challenging. Comprehension of the concepts are essential to success in subsequent subjects, namely, geometry and algebra 2.
I assisted and guest taught Algebra 2 for the entire year at a south bay high school. Besides topics such as Matrices and Logarithm, graphing of polynomials and functions, solving for real and complex zeroes call for a tremendous amount of analysis. I can help the student master these skills with careful examination of the clues and signs.
Mandarin is my first language. I have been bilingual since college and am fluent in both English and Mandarin in speaking, reading and writing. I have taught adult ESL classes in a couple of Chinese churches and children's Bible classes to children of all ages with some of them speaking only Mandarin. Setting some practical language learning goals and achieving them while having fun can be exciting for both children and adults.
I have tutored many students at the elementary level, both boys and girls. Students enjoy seeing pictures and drawing pictures while solving word problems and using manipulatives, charts, wrap-ups to build basic math skills.
I have taught Geometry to students with different learning styles and needs. I would like to identify the student's learning style and use different learning strategies to generate a dialogue. Re-working the school lesson and finding the point of confusion allow the student to understand the concepts correctly and solve problems with simple guidance.
Learning Prealgebra is like the learning of the roles, functions, and rules of the game pieces of the game of Algebra. I would teach Prealgebra to make it fun and rewarding. The skills learned well in Prealgebra makes playing the Algebra game easier and a lot more interesting.
