Rowan University (Math, Communications)
Sarah Lawrence College - MFA Theatre (Master's)
I have taught Algebra 2B and Geometry A during summer school in LAUSD high schools, and hold a BA in Mathematics and a BA in Communications from Rowan College of New Jersey, as well as an MFA in Theatre from Sarah Lawrence College.
My students have often stated I break down the subject matter for them so easily, whereas before they just didn't understand. I'm a fun teacher as well as clear and patient, so most students of all academic levels feel extremely comfortable in my presence, which is important, especially those in need of extra help.
I sometimes feel it's a good idea to record the student explaining the subject of interest on video tape, which may be fun for them, and simultaneously instill a sense of confidence with regards to their understanding of the material. We could upload the videos to your computer if you have one accessible.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
~ Taught Algebra 2B in LAUSD summer school 2005
~ Taught Geometry A in LAUSD summer school 2008
~ Current guest teacher in various LAUSD high school and middle school classes
I am wonderful with explaining algebraic operations such that student remembers and understands the process
I am clear, patient, and break down material such that the student actually understands what and why they are doing certain operations
I hold an Emergency 30-Day Substitute Teaching Permit within the State of California. I'm a guest teacher in the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). In order to be eligible to work in LAUSD, one must have passed all three portions of the CBEST test - Reading, Writing, and Mathematics.
I'm originally from New Jersey, so I had to study on my own to pass the CBEST test before I arrived in Los Angeles to take the test. My education well equipped me to pass it, and I would be happy to share that knowledge with you.
Also note that you can take different portions of the test at different times if you prefer taking it that way.
I have excellent English skills, stemming from a rigorous Catholic Grammar and Middle School education.
I have many foreign friends, and enjoy giving them feedback with their English when needed.
Listening and speaking is an excellent resource to remembering a language, so a video camera is a suggested tool to utilize during sessions.
I am 100% vegan, which means I only eat plant-based foods. I am about 60% raw vegan, which means I tend to eat plant foods, which haven't been processed or cooked above 118 degrees Fahrenheit. This allows the nutrients and digestive enzymes to remain in the food. I am also a believer that many diseases can be healed with a plant-based diet, in particular a raw plant-based diet including but not limited to cancer, diabetes, and obesity.
I could share with you my knowledge of eating this way for 6 years, and prior to that being 5 years vegetarian (no meat, but dairy and eggs permitted)
I'm a guest teacher in LAUSD for middle and high school as well as an actor and vocalist. I was also a part time radio host for 15 years. My degrees are in Mathematics and Communications from Rowan University, and from Sarah Lawrence College I earned my MFA in Theatre.
I'm creative, clear, and patient with my teaching. I utilize a video camera, particularly for reading and pronunciation skills, to make the lesson more fun, and for the student to be able to review parts of the session. Seeing and hearing oneself is a fun way to learn. Students learn good presentation skills in the process.
I'm really great at breaking down words and sounds simply, encouraging the student to repeat the word until it's said perfectly. I worked with a musical artist, who has Aspergers Syndrome (a form of autism), and it was very common for me to have to coach him to repeat certain words with proper diction.
You will look forward to our sessions!
I worked part-time as a radio broadcaster for 15 years in Los Angeles, New Jersey, New York, and internationally over the World Wide Web, and continue to conduct video interviews on social awareness topics particularly on animal welfare and female safety rights.
I also have written and presented speeches close to 20 times at various city council meetings in Los Angeles County. These speeches are all archived, and available for viewing at the appropriate city's website.
In addition, I am an actor/vocalist, and work around a video camera on a constant basis. If we were to work together, I would draw out of you what you want to say in a speech - where your passion lies in the piece. We would constantly be working on camera, so you may see how you come across to others. This would include evaluating your physical being (clothes, hair, etc.) as well as tone, quality, and voice dynamics.
