Dear potential clients,

My name is Ryan V. I am a recent graduate from the University of California, Riverside. I have achieved a bachelor's of science in Pure Mathematics with a cumulative GPA of 3.71 and has received the honor: Cum Laude. I have a passion for math education and is an inspiring educator and I feel this would be a great opportunity for me to help students with their mathematical endeavors, regardless of their backgrounds.

Ever since I was little, I knew that I would have a career using math as it was my favorite subject. Due to influential teachers within my K-12 education along with the talented professors at UCR, it has further influenced me to become a teacher of Mathematics. Ever since, I have been doing my best in school to progress in achieving that dream and to obtain a comfortable income for living. Besides doing my best in academia, I purposefully decided to gain some teaching experience through working at UCR’s academic resource center where I got the opportunity to prepare college students for university-level Mathematics. For three academic years, I have tried my best to take on the role as a teacher at every lab session as I would create personal lesson plans to teach my set of students intermediate algebra effectively. The quarterly evaluations would reassure me that the many hours I spent to prepare my notes was all worth it as it indicated that it was necessary to teach well. My favorite evaluations are as follows:

“ Ryan was amazing! He literally made this class so simple for us in terms of thoroughly explaining material. I was able to understand concepts that I hadn't been able to understand in the past and always struggled with. It was great going to lab because it didn't feel like a waste of
time. Thank you!”

I also currently tutor all the math that is offered at a local community college. Math concepts range from intermediate Algebra to all of calculus, along with linear algebra and differential equations.

These job essentially showed me that I indeed want to continue to fulfill what I believe is my purpose, which is to help students understand mathematical concepts well and show them how powerful and useful knowing math can be. Due to my passion for math, these are my goals that I have acquired and is determined to achieve.

To give more information about me and my background: I come from a low income family. Our financial situation was low since I was a kid as my dad became disabled at that time. With this being said, it is another important reason why I strived to do my best in school as having an education can possibly make one’s living situation much more comfortable. My parents’ situation along with their motivating words to always work hard has caused me to strive to do my best and has further facilitated in me being successful thus far in college. This is also another contributing factor as to why I would love to teach, as I want to also inspire low-income students to pursue math, not only because it is an interesting subject, but also because it can function as an avenue towards obtaining a comfortable living.

I would like to end by saying thank you for your time reading this and for the opportunity.

Sincerely,

Ryan V.

Math

Discrete Math,

Discrete Math

With a degree in pure math, being efficient at discrete math is necessary for success. A relatable and foundational course for upper-division mathematics is set theory.
Logic,

Logic

For my electives, I have taken intro to logic and formal logic. Both courses I have received an A+ . A big notion in logic is validity and what it means for a statement to be true or false. Truth and falsity is dependent on definitions such as what it means for an implication to be true or false. Formal logic dealt with quantificational logic.
