I'm a graduate of Cal Poly State University, where I acquired my Bachelor's Degree in Electronic Engineering while concentrating in Computers. In addition to my curriculum in Electronics, my coursework included Chemistry, General to Advanced Physics, and Mathematics from Algebra to Calculus to Fourier Analysis. My career has its foundation in semiconductor electronics, computer CPUs and Networking. Coupled with my personal skills and creativeness that allowed me to become an effective Technical Sales Consultant, Technical Marketing Engineer and a visionary of emerging technologies.

My tutoring techniques would vary, as every student is different. I'm a firm believer that the concepts and principles in Mathematics and Science can be explained, but tutoring methods and studying materials can only be determined once I understand what is most effective and beneficial for you and/or your student.

Granted, not all students are the same. This is where I determine it's not the students' lack of understanding or ability to grasp the material presented to them by their instructors; but rather, a change is necessary in their study habits and approach to solving problems.

"College doesn't make you smart. College teaches you to be resourceful."

My tutoring experience also includes part-time work while in college. This included private instruction in Mathematics to High School students, and assisting college students in a Computer Laboratory.

It was my experience as a guest speaker while interning with IBM in Manassas, VA, talking to 5th graders about the importance of Math and English in their future, where I realized that elementary students are capable of abstract thinking and working through solutions to complex problems. It was fun to see the students participate, contributing answers, to one of the most fundamental problem in Physics - the Block on an Incline.

Physics has always been my favorite subject. Probably because the experience with my Physics Instructors in college were some of the best! Because of that I know how important it is to have a good student-instructor relationship. Mathematics go hand-in-hand with Physics. One cannot exist without the other. It is again my experience with some of the best Math instructors that led to my success through three terms of Calculus and Differential Equations.

If you need help with Computers or with Networking or with Microsoft Applications, I'm a valuable resource!

Computer Engineering,

Computer Engineering

I graduated with a B.S. in Electronic Engineering from Cal Poly State University with a concentration in Computer. I have taken coursework in Microprocessor Design, Computer Architecture, Programming in FORTRAN, Pascal, and C. Upon graduation, I held performed silicon to system validation of Ethernet MACs across multiple PCI computer motherboard platforms and x86 microprocessors. I became knowledgable in computer platform design and northbridge/southbridge functionality and feature set.
Computer Programming,

Computer Programming

I have previous experience programming in DOS BASIC. I graduated with a B.S. in Electronic Engineering from Cal Poly State University with a concentration in Computer. I have taken coursework in Microprocessor Design, Computer Architecture, Programming in FORTRAN, Pascal, and C. I am currently learning the syntax for Python scripting.
Networking (Computer),

Networking (Computer)

I graduated from Cal Poly with a BS Degree in Electronic Engineering - with an emphasis in computers and networking. During my last 2-3 yrs at Cal Poly I was also the lead Computer Support person for the Business Staff of Associated Student's Incorporated. Upon Graduation, I was a Systems Development Engineer for one of the leading semiconductor firms in the world and there I validated silicon to system solutions of Ethernet Media Access Controllers. Throughout those 9 years, and since then, I've been building, operating and administrating local area networks. Today, I'm the lead Technical Adviser in IT for a small startup and am positioned to carry through to a Systems Engineering position in preparation of managing the office and operations of a networking service provider in San Francisco. Currently, I'm pursuing my Cisco Certification as Network Administrator - something I should've done decades ago. The material is clearly review and learning how to apply what I already know or am familiar with. Networking is my life...it started my career and I'm ending with it.

My study methods employ skills in reading subject material in a systematic approach to reinforce notes from lectures and key terms requiring attention or memorization. Additional methods include using flash cards where some students may be more "right" brain in that visuals are more effective. For the most part, it's about "outlining" subject material and reinforcing key terms or equations through flash cards and memorization.

Differential Equations

Dear Students of Differential Equations: As an undergraduate of the Electronic Engineering program at Cal Poly State University, I have completed advanced mathematics in Differential Equations, up to and including Laplace Transformations and Fourier Analysis. My objective in tutoring you in Differential Equations would be to help you overcome the first steps in identifying linear differential equations, and transforming them into its standard form, to guide you in applying the methods taught, to then transform equations that are solvable using the methods that you have already learned and applied in calculus and complex algebra.

Great with kids!

Alex worked well with my 5th grader and left him excited about math and spelling. He can't wait to see him again.

Very helpful

My boys met with Alex today for the first time. After meeting with him they understood the math task in front of him and he fully explained not only what to do but more importantly why. Thank you Alex and we look forward to working with you to bring out my boys full potential.

Excellent Tutor

Alex has been a godsend for our family. Our 6th grader was failing math and Alex helped to make math exciting for him. He also managed to improve our family dynamic, as well. We no longer had to fight over math homework each night. Alex solidified math concepts for our son, giving him the confidence to problem solve independently, and NOW our son has the 2nd highest overall math score in his entire class!!! Truly worth the time, effort, and cost.

Great Results

Alex spent three sessions with my daughter preparing her for her pre-calculus final. By the time he was finished, she felt well prepared for her test. Highly recommend him!

Very pleased!

Alex has been working with my son for several sessions now and it has been going well. He is easy to get in touch with, flexible with timing and very punctual. Things are going so well that my daughter asked if she could have some tutoring sessions, too. I am sure working with elementary and middle school aged kids is not always the easiest but Alex always seems really cheerful and and clearly is concerned with making sure the kids have some fun in addition to getting their homework done. The kids really like him and they are making good progress, too. I would definitely recommend Alex to others and we will be continuing with regular lessons.

Calculus

Alex is a great tutor. He is always on time, very knowledgeable and is flexible to our ever changing schedule. He is an expert and his engaging nature aids my daughter in learning calculus on her own. My daughter was placed into calculus one month late (and she is not a math lover) but with Alex's coaching and tutoring she has caught up with the class and hopes to surpass the class soon. He always gives her handouts and teaching aids to make calculus understandable and relatable. His fee is very reasonable for his expertise and tutoring.

Very thorough!

Alex has been tutoring my son in IB physics. He is very thorough and explains the material well. He sends helpful explanations by email and I was very impressed that he contacted my son's teacher to find out what topics would be most helpful to cover. He is doing a great job.
