About Donald

Dear prospective student,

I have experience helping with computer security or technical issues, helping people learn computer use, helping people make newsletters, books, and websites, and copy editing. I know how to introduce technology to those who are unfamiliar with computers as well as to teach desktop publishing, software use, and technical assistance with more advanced users. I have a typing speed tested at from 52 wpm to 54 wpm. I have a desktop support certificate and an Associates degree in Information Technology from University of Phoenix, as well as certificates in Web Development and Graphic Design from San Joaquin Delta College.

I am patient and very thorough in teaching, assisting, and doing computer tasks. I meet either at the residence of the client or else in public venues such as Starbucks, the library, or the bookstore. I can teach how to apply for jobs online, how to prepare documents for print, how to prepare books for print, how to prepare websites for publication, set them up, and maintain them, as well as how to solve virus issues, spyware issues, slow computers, and properly keep your computer maintained and running smoothly. I personalize each experience with addressing an individual with their needs with one on one appointments.

I can teach Adobe Photoshop skills with photo editing, as I have helped the digital photography award winner Elizabeth J. Parrish digitally edit or alter some of her photography as well as simpler edits such as making dimensions right for photo print sizes and contest entries.

Let me know your available times for appointment!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Adobe Flash

I have created and modified flash videos and animation in Adobe Flash Professional Creative Suite 3. I had implemented those flash animations in class projects as well as live websites. I passed the course at San Joaquin Delta College which required use of the Adobe Flash software, completing my two certifications. One certificate is in Computer Web Development Applications, the other is in Graphic Design. I work together with the student in showing them how to do the tasks requested. I can also reference to online tutorials and walk them through the steps from the researched learning sources. I have been designing websites since 2005 to present.

Adobe InDesign

I have taken several courses in Adobe InDesign Creative Suite 2 at San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton, California in the Graphics department. I have produced dozens of staple-bound newsletters in InDesign, in both half fold and magazine size, for the Writers' Guild club publications. I have also co-edited two poetry and art anthologies in InDesign online and as print on demand books, one of which was also distributed through select retailers.

Chess

I have played thousands of chess games back in high school with competitive friends. I have studied chess books around that same time including ones listing classic strategic scenarios and the moves that lead to the best outcome from them. I had belonged to a chess club in high school as well.

I will be able to teach how to value pieces in order of their power towards plays, how to look for forks between two possible captures, how to build position defensively by their potential movements in capture exchanges, and also how to look moves in advance in order to plan the game out and to anticipate potential attacks based on the opponent's position and moves, and to anticipate responses to one's own moves by placing oneself in the other's shoes.

Desktop Publishing

When I took classes for my Graphic Design Certification in Fall 2008, I learned to use Adobe InDesign publishing software and started using it to edit a small magazine published every two months, from 2005 to 2010, in junction with another editor. I learned how to export or save to pdf for print ready format, made print on demand anthologies and other books in paperback and hardbound, coilbound, combbound, vellum bound, and staple bound books in full page size and half page size at local copy shops as well as through the local college's print shop.

Dreamweaver

With my classes at San Joaquin Delta College where I completed a Web Development Certificate, I learned an earlier version of Dreamweaver. Since then I have used later versions in creating websites for bookstores, artists, a church, a church group, myself, friends, and for small businesses in my area. I used it in 2005 during the brief partnership where we founded Tree in a Forest Web Design before lack of marketing was too detrimental. I learned some basic HTML and CSS in the process and utilized my graphic design skills with a Graphic Design Certification, with a few other Adobe courses from San Joaquin Delta College.

English

I have been writing poetry and editing magazines and books for many years. I was editor of Poets' Espresso from 2005 to 2010. I have been a published author as well as been on the publishing end of it as well.

Graphic Design

I have graphically edited photographs collaboratively with the local photographer Elizabeth J. Parrish that have since won awards. I have utilized layers and complex selections in conjunction with tools such as the clone stamp tool in order to mask unwanted areas and replace them with artifacts from the same image that look genuine. I have earned a Graphic Design certificate from San Joaquin Delta College and there and in practice have used various versions of Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, and free substitute graphic editing software as well, in order to achieve these effects in both photographs and websites.

I can teach how to resize, edit photos, create effects on request, the tools that Photoshop has available, how to find and install extra tools such as filters for special effects, and design images and websites in Photoshop.

Microsoft Publisher

I have designed issues of magazines with Microsoft Publisher. The adding of graphics, formatting of text, and preparing for print, with re-edits as proofing is done, have become second nature after the many times I've done it. I have helped people put together directories and fliers in Microsoft Publisher among many similar software types and have frequently used the Microsoft Office Suite.

Microsoft Windows

I have been using Windows operating systems since they were first introduced to the public. I have been a daily user of Windows systems for internet, word processing, graphic editing, troubleshooting, and file keeping. I know quite a lot about Windows features like the Administration tools and standard software features, uses, and benefits. I used Windows XP for the longest of the OS's but am very proficient at Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1, and am already familiar with the new features of Windows 10.

Web Design

I have a certificate in Web Development and another in Graphic Design. I have experience with web design using ftp software, web hosted file managers, graphic user interfaces such as Weeby, Strikingly, and WordPress, and had tried my hand at starting a business in it with the partnership Tree in a Forest Web Design for a few months in 2005.

Writing

I have an Associate's degree in Communications and have written poetry and other creative writing among other communications most of my life. I have been published in poetry magazines locally as well as edited my own poetry magazines and books.
