About Lynnette

I grew up in the Bay Area and am now studying for my BS in Biology and Psychology at the University of the Pacific as part as the honors program. I grew up with six siblings and being the oldest, I tend to be motherly. I like to volunteer in my community and join different cultural clubs (such as Kilusan Filipino, Vietnamese Student Association, and the United Cultural Council) to meet new people. I currently serve as President for VSA. People tend to describe me as a very curious individual because I always ask a lot of questions and I love to talk to anyone around me. I love to read when I find the time; John Green and Stephen King are some of my favorite authors.

In high school, I was a peer tutor for my Economy and Government class. I worked with students outside of class to provide homework assistance and to clarify any of the course material. The program was dedicated to helping students raise their test averages. I also worked as a tutor my first year at Pacific for the Pacific's Migrant Education program. The program hires tutors/mentors to work at elementary schools in the Stockton Unified School District and we planned lesson activities and provided extra aid for migrant families. We hosted back to school nights and parent information nights. There were also monthly training sessions held by the SUSD staff on how to become more effective tutors. I also worked at UOP's Center for Community Involvement as an individual tutor. We connected with students within the SUSD district to provide one-on-one tutoring services. In addition, I always help explain homework to my little brothers and sisters whenever they are struggling. All of my tutoring experiences has taught me how to work with students and offer a welcoming environment so that they are not afraid to ask for help. I have learned to better connect with tutees and I am grateful that I have received so many chances to share my passion of helping others.

I have completed all math courses up to Calculus BC and I also took the AP test for Calc AB and BC. This includes middle school math, precalculus, geometry, and trigonometry. In high school, I was on the honor course for my math classes and thus can provide adequate help in the subject. I have yet to take math courses at the University because I transferred all my AP credits.

I have taken the AP Biology test offered by CollegeBoard and I received a score of 5. I know how to study for the test and effective studying strategies. I also completed general biology classes (Bio51 and Bio 61) at the University of the Pacific and thus am very well verse in the subject. The course at the university utilizes the same textbook as the AP Biology class I took in high school and essentially, I've completely gone through the book twice. I am also a biology major and am currently enrolled in upper division biology classes (genetics, immunology, etc.).

I love being a part of the community of educators. I am flexible in my hours and I am extremely eager to share my knowledge. I always make sure to explain difficult concepts through multiple perspective and I try my best to understand a student's learning capabilities. I want to unlock the genius inside everyone! My motto is "if you're making mistakes, it means you're trying, and if you're trying, then I can help you succeed". I believe that I am a qualified tutor and I know that I can make a difference if given the opportunity to help.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Adobe InDesign

I took yearbook classes in high school for two years (my junior and senior year). We created the yearbook spreads using InDesign. I was the main editor for the student life section. Everyone in yearbook class learned the ins and out of InDesign.
