I am a teacher at heart. I always have and I always will be. For me, the focus is always on the student and his/her needs. My goals are always to balance the student's natural likes and interests with what he/she needs to learn and master to finish his/her course or grade. I am also innovative in using different techniques like using game-challenges, entertainment... keeping things interesting to help the student keep focus and attention. Also, I do, from time to time, just talk and listen to the student to build a caring and trusting relationship. I have competencies in the areas of language arts, reading, writing, and comprehension... as well as history, geography, and literature... I can tutor these at all levels... from 1st grade to 12th grade... even College. Spending a significant time of my life overseas has also given me the ability to teach English as a Second Language. I have experience tutoring for the Los Angeles Unified School District helping struggling students from low-income families. Most of all, I really have the heart and desire to help... not just the student himself/herself but also the family.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
