Stanford University (Human Biology)
My name is Nikki A and I am a sophomore at Stanford University. I am currently studying Human Biology in hopes of pursuing my Master of Public Health and subsequently attending medical school. I really enjoy being able to help other students thrive and boost their self confidence. I have sincerely benefitted from being tutored in the past and I want to provide those same memorable experiences for my students. It is not always easy to learn in a classroom setting and the extra one-on-one attention can make all the difference in one's test scores. In my tutoring lessons, I start by identifying the student's source of confusion. I then move towards explaining the topic and doing problems to ensure the student has adequate time to practice. However, my lesson plan changes depending on the individual needs of my student.
In high school, I was an academic mentor for all four years and tutored many of my classmates in topics ranging from Algebra and Chemistry to Spanish, English, and American History. I also took outside tutoring positions for local students who needed help with any general math and science classes. I learned to tutor from my mother who is a middle and high school math teacher and a math and Spanish tutor. She imbued in me a passion for learning and helping others.
All four years of high school I tutored math, specifically Algebra and Geometry. My junior year of high school I got a perfect score on the ACT Math section and my senior year I received a 5 on the AP Calculus AB exam. I have taken Calculus at Stanford as well and received an A.
Chemistry has always been one of my favorite subjects in school. I took Honors and AP Chemistry in high school and received a 4 on the AP Chemistry test. I also completed General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry at Stanford and received straight As.
I have been studying Spanish for 7 years and am looking into pursuing a minor in Spanish at Stanford. During my senior year in high school, i won the Spanish Department Award for outstanding work in my Spanish classes and also received a 4 on my AP Spanish test. In the past, I have also tutored students in high school Spanish classes.
I want to work with my students to find the method of learning that works best for them. I can be easily contacted with questions and encourage you to reach out to me! I am looking forward to scheduling a lesson with you and meeting you. My name is Nikki A and I am a sophomore at Stanford University. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
