About Brett

Yep! That's me hanging off a bridge I taught my students to build made only of popsicle sticks and hot glue!

My weeks fill up quickly so please schedule your times early!

Physics and Math are passions of mine. I can teach you why you feel heavier flying through a loop on a roller coaster, how far you can throw a baseball on the moon, and why sunlight refracting through water droplets forms a rainbow!

Because each student is unique and learns differently, my lessons and teaching vary to match what works best for the student. With my mechanical engineering background, I firmly link abstract principles to tangible real-world phenomena; these connections are instrumental for developing an intuition for science that demystifies and heightens the equations we use.

In addition to six years of tutoring extremely satisfied students, I have taught Physics, Algebra, Calculus, and Engineering to middle school and high school students for Duke University's Talent Identification Program. At Duke, I developed entire curriculums from scratch to teach students a year's worth of material in three weeks. I have ample experience, therefore, in teaching a wealth of material concisely and effectively.

My students easily understand difficult material with my instruction. I have a flawless rating on Wyzant because I hold myself to the very highest standard for every single lesson. My ratings as a Duke TIP instructor are equally exceptional; my students consistently rate me as a top Instructor for engagement, creativity, clarity, feedback, enthusiasm, and serving as an academic role model.

I tutor students in grades 6 - 12, focusing especially on helping college-bound sophomores, juniors, and seniors achieve their highest potential. This includes honors and AP courses in addition to SAT and ACT prep. I tutor all levels (regular, honors, and AP) of Physics (1, 2, C Mech, & C Elec), Chemistry, Algebra, and Calculus (AB & BC).

After just a two hour lesson, I personally guarantee you will see instant and significant improvement on quiz and test results. If you do not improve, your next lesson with me is completely free!

Weekly and semester rates negotiable! Multi-student rates also negotiable!

Please message me if you are interested, and I look forward to working with you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

As a mechanical engineering major, I have completed extensive coursework in math. I also competed in math tournaments in high school. I have tutored students in math in structured programs and privately for a few years.

Calculus

As a mechanical engineering major, I have completed extensive coursework in calculus up through calculus 4 at Columbia University. Since then (for the past four years), I have taught and tutored calculus to high school and college students with great success.

Mechanical Engineering

I am a Mechanical Engineering Major at Rice University in my senior year of study. My relevant experience includes tutoring middle school and high school students for six years in structured programs and on the side.

Physics

I will ensure you get a 5 on the AP Physics test. As a nationally ranked tutor and one of Wyzant's top 100 tutors, each and every lesson I provide is exceptional and efficient. As a mechanical engineer, my coursework and my professional experience has relied heavily on a solid foundation of physics. I use physics daily in my work, my studies, and as a tutor. I have had the most success with physics out of all the subjects I tutor. Physics is truly a passion of mine. My students begin to love physics when they understand this world's mathematical foundational beauty rather than just a jumble of disjointed equations.

Precalculus

I have taught and tutored precalc to high school students with great success. My high school students often show immediate significant improvement on their test and homework grades after just a few sessions of reviewing precalc concepts with me.
