Hello! I'm Eric. I'm a professional educator with over six years of tutoring experience. I'm a former high school science teacher and, most recently, was an education director in New York City. I have also been a test prep tutor (primarily the ACT and SAT) for the last two years. My tutoring style is relationship-based. I strive to get to know students and tailor a tutoring program specifically for them. The tutoring environment I create is a space where students can feel relaxed, challenged, and free to make mistakes (dare I say have fun?).

In the past two years, I've focused on ACT and SAT test prep. I have found that a rigorous program of mock testing, homework, and one-on-one lessons yields the biggest improvement in scores and confidence. My work with students has yielded an average composite ACT increase of 3-4 points and an average increase of around 150 points on the new SAT.

While I never guarantee a certain score or result, I can guarantee that I'll work hard to get to know you as a student and do everything in my power to help you succeed. I expect my students to work just as hard!

I hope to work with you soon!

Common Core,

Common Core

Common core math is quite different from what many adults (including myself) grew up with. It asks students to read, deconstruct, reconstruct, and synthesize just to do something as simple as adding or multiplying numbers. This can often be challenging for students not used to this approach. In the past six years, I've worked with countless students on common core math assignments. I believe mastery of these concepts lies in both 1) understanding the underlying concepts and 2) practicing the skill several times. Working together, we can decode these tough math assignments and improve your overall math skills.

Elementary Math Qualifications: I am the current education director with South Bronx United. I coordinate and tutor students ages 10-19 specializing in all math subjects (elementary math, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, SAT math etc). Prior to moving to NY, I taught science for three years in East Los Angeles. I have been tutoring and mentoring for over eight years; I absolutely love it!

ACT English

The English section of the ACT can be challenging due to its focus on nitty-gritty grammar rules and rhetoric. Through my extensive work on this section, I'm familiar with the way the section asks certain questions and hope to pass that knowledge on to you! I also hope to share the various strategies I've picked up over my years of teaching. I've had lots of success on this section helping students raise their scores 3+ points on this section as well as helping them improve their composite by 3-4 points.

Great Tutor

Eric is very patient and seems to be doing a great job. He's also a very nice guy and he's been very dependable. It's still too soon to tell if my daughter's grades will improve dramatically, but I intend to stick with him.
