About Daniel

I am a 5 year high and middle school teacher of the Humanities. Currently I am transitioning into full time counseling but love working with students one on one as we grow in knowledge and wisdom on a variety of subjects.

In my free time I like to garden, especially roses - as evidenced by my Instagram account - and writing philosophical musings on my blog. When I am not in front of the computer I enjoy swimming and walking around my lovely home town of Pasadena, CA.

I am a life long student of philosophy in addition to having a Bachelors degree and two years of Graduate level studies in Scholastic Philosophy. I make a daily habit of reading Aristotle and and look forward to joining the student in their thoughts and perspectives. Additionally I can edit papers and help with formatting as well as content.

As both a student and teacher of History I love working with students come to know how the world around us has gotten the way it is! I have taught AP US History as well as a variety of other High School level history subjects and look forward to sharing my knowledge with the student.

I look forward to your tutoring inquiries and growing in knowledge and wisdom with you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

I have taught scripture for two years at the high school level as well as maintain a blog concerning various ways of interpreting and understanding the sacred text.

Chess

I have not only played chess all my life but have a variety of texts to help the student work on particular problems and unique results. I have worked on a method to help students predict a variety of possible moves ahead and to be flexible with initial plans!

Political Science

I have taught AP US Government for a number of years at several catholic high schools. As part of that process I not only had to prepare the students for the test but also generate curriculum in order to explain Catholic social teaching in light of the American system of government. This involved the students considering Aristotelian and Thomistic political thought and then interpreting John Lock and Thomas Jefferson's writings in relationship to the classics. I believe that I can provide any student with a breadth of knowledge as well as critical means by which to consider any political argumentation.

Religion

In addition to my listed degrees I spent seven years as a member of a Catholic monastery. Part of which involved three years of graduate work in philosophy and theology. Though I never finished those degrees I bring to the study of all religious thought a discerning temperament and a willingness to examine every opinion in the light of logical argumentation.
