Louis Pasteur said, "Chance favors the prepared mind." It is amazing to me how totally underrated basic speech skills and communications skills are for survival today in almost any environment. Public speaking and listening skills are a significant weak spot for many young and seasoned professionals, small companies and students trying to ultimately get a competitive edge in the work place. Yet most often... it is this skill that can make an appreciable difference.
To me, there is a direct correlation between quality presentation skills, and success in the professional world and in life. I have worked extensively with hundreds of individuals and small groups that were very bright but stressed out because they did not have time, very little background or were simple rusty and needed someone to listen to them...so their chances improve significantly. I am not a reading instructor. I work with speaking skills often using poetry, prose or dramatic readings to improve speaking and eye contact with your audience.
Many of my students have had great success in a variety of careers including - sales and marketing executives, sales support, conference call sales meetings, business management, technical sales, medical sales, finance/securities brokers, teachers, politicians, radio hosts, TV, and theater.
One-on-one coaching: working with an individual, small group or small business can significantly improve basic speech skills, confidence in the classroom, confidence with sales & marketing presentations, important technical presentations and critical public appearances with large audiences.
Most of the private speech companies are very expensive, inflexible with their time and offerings. My goal for you or your group is to have fun, vastly improve basic presentation skills and learn to learn again and again. Good listening skills and defining meeting objectives is critical. We only have one chance to make a good first impression! Louis Pasteur said, "Chance favors the prepared mind." My rate is for coaching one client during a session. A session is a minimum of 90 minutes. 2nd person 30% savings.
One month after my session with Tom, I was in a meeting with new customers and was unexpectedly called upon to deliver a presentation without prepared notes. I was surprised by my ease and comfort to access information about the subject and confidently share it without freezing up as I have in the past. Very importantly, Tom taught me how to engage the audience and understand everyone's objectives. The two sessions I had with Tom were extremely productive and took my speaking to a new level that has already had positive results.
Tom advised that my speech should incorporate some humor or personal touch.
He recommended that I practice the speech at the location of the event and as often as possible.
Posture while giving the speech was another point he emphasized along with its delivery. Very helpful. I highly recommend Tom to anyone.
I needed help with improving my presentation and conference call skills. Tom was very helpful and provided me with some great suggestions as a starting point and we will go from there. He has great people skills and is very knowledgeable.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have my undergraduate degree from Truman University (Kirksville, Missouri) in speech and english... with a concentration/certification in oral interpretation of literature. This experience was with the Parkway School System in St. Louis. I did post graduate school at Washington University in St. Louis. I have my masters in school administration. If you need the degree paper work please advise.
