I've been an educator for 37 years, serving as a classroom teacher and elementary school principal. My expertise as a Reading Recovery Teacher is used during tutoring to deliver a totally individualized reading and writing program for struggling primary grade students. Leveled reading books are used based on diagnostic tests at the beginning of the program, as well as daily checks of progress. A variety of materials are used to supplement paper and pencil instruction such as magnetic letters, whiteboards, salt trays and electronic aides. Students are expected to practice reading the leveled books at home and complete the writing lesson of the day with an illustration. The success of Reading Recovery is known internationally, having started in New Zealand which has the highest literacy rate in the world. Students under my care have always become successful, proficient readers and writers working on grade level in their classrooms.

I am a retired elementary school teacher and principal with over 38 years of experience. As a principal, I had to be the curriculum and instructional leader of the school and my school consistently surpassed all State and Federal Standardized Test Score Requirements. I have mentored teachers and served as a district teacher trainer. My strong background in elementary education was recognized and I evaluated schools outside our district for the State of California. I hold a Master of Arts Degree in Early Childhood Education, Reading Recovery Certification and credentials in Elementary Education and Management. In addition, I completed a two-year course through the California State Leadership Academy. I have a thorough knowledge of elementary education and curriculum, testing requirements, and the experience to design and implement programs to meet the needs our diverse student population.

I am a highly trained, experienced retired elementary school teacher with a Master of Arts Degree in Early Childhood Education and certification in reading. Having taught in the primary grades for 38 years, I am very familiar with many different approaches to teaching phonics and reading and writing strategies so that a child can become an independent, successful learner. During my career, I've developed curriculum and served as a teacher trainer. As a Reading Recovery teacher, I worked with the children who were failing in the regular classroom setting and provided them with an individualized program that worked miracles in boosting their self-confidence and their academic growth.

I am a retired elementary school teacher and school principal. I have designed curriculum, instituted school-wide academic programs, as well as serving as a mentor and teacher trainer. When I was in high school, I graduated at the top of my class and I graduated from college with "highest honors." I have tutored for decades at all grade levels, and teaching students how to study, to stay organized and to do well on exams are all specialties of mine. My personal academic record proves this point. One of my current students is a doctoral candidate in epidemiology and she consistently scores "Distinguished" on all her essays and research papers. I am passionate about teaching students how to study so they can be successful, independent learners.

Amazing educator! Able to create individualized learning plan. Great to work with for both child and parent

Janis did an amazing job of creating an education plan and executing it. We loved her structured approach and her creativity to make learning to read and write fun!

Flexible!

Janis not only helped my son with his reading and spelling, but when his teacher gave him a poor grade because of his organizational skills, Janis jumped right in and has him learning how to use his planner, how to take organized notes and how to make his papers "look like an art project." Janis truly cares about my 12 year old son and his success!
