I've been an educator for 37 years, serving as a classroom teacher and elementary school principal. My expertise as a Reading Recovery Teacher is used during tutoring to deliver a totally individualized reading and writing program for struggling primary grade students. Leveled reading books are used based on diagnostic tests at the beginning of the program, as well as daily checks of progress. A variety of materials are used to supplement paper and pencil instruction such as magnetic letters, whiteboards, salt trays and electronic aides. Students are expected to practice reading the leveled books at home and complete the writing lesson of the day with an illustration. The success of Reading Recovery is known internationally, having started in New Zealand which has the highest literacy rate in the world. Students under my care have always become successful, proficient readers and writers working on grade level in their classrooms.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

As a principal, I had to be the curriculum and instructional leader of the school and my school consistently surpassed all State and Federal Standardized Test Score Requirements. I have mentored teachers and served as a district teacher trainer.
My strong background in elementary education was recognized and I evaluated schools outside our district for the State of California. I hold a Master of Arts Degree in Early Childhood Education, Reading Recovery Certification and credentials in Elementary Education and Management. In addition, I completed a two-year course through the California State Leadership Academy.

When I was in high school, I graduated at the top of my class and I graduated from college with "highest honors."
