My name is Dyann and I am currently relocating to the Grass Valley area from Santa Barbara. I received the bulk of my education from California State University San Bernardino where I obtained a BA in Social Sciences, an MA in Interdisciplinary Studies (Psychology, Sociology, Criminology) and a Clear Teaching Credential in Special Education with an emphasis on Autism Spectrum Disorders. I continued my education at the University of Northern Texas in the Board Certified Behavior Analysis Program. I have integrated the vast social, psychological, and educational education I obtained to start a successful private practice as an Educational Therapist, after teaching many years in public schools. I have provided supplemental education to students as well as home schooling many students in the Santa Barbara area that I am relocating from.
My philosophy in education is to meet the student at their current levels of functioning, establish excellent rapport, and bring out the highest potential in the child, while they thrive emotional and socially , gaining esteem and efficacy in all areas. I have had overwhelming success in in my field, bringing students successfully from middle school, through high school and on to college. My techniques involve unconditional high regard for the student, and employing positive behavior reinforcement that creates an intrinsic sense of pride and accomplishment.
I hold a Clear California Teaching Credential for Mild/ Moderate disabilities. I taught Special Day Classes in Public Schools for 10 years before becoming an Educational Therapist registered with the Association for Educational Therapy . I have provided educational services for a variety of students with varying abilities, with an emphasis on Aspergers and High Functioning Autism.
i am relocating to the Grass Valley Area in the near future, and would love to have students waiting for me as I make the transition from the Santa Barbara Area. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I hold a Clear California Teaching Credential in Special Education. I am currently an Educational Therapist working specifically, but not exclusively, with Aspergers and Special Needs in the Santa Barbara Area. I am an Associate Member of AET, the association for Educational Therapists.
