Berklee College of Music (Jazz Composition)
I have taught music for more than ten years, most recently with the non-profit MIMA Music, serving as their educational director in New York City. I designed curriculums to teach general music, songwriting and storytelling through music. My degree is in jazz composition, and I play primarily saxophone and bass and have experience playing guitar, trombone, tuba and euphonium.
In addition to my musical experience, I am also a prospective graduate candidate in creative writing. I have written scripts for sketch and stage shows, and I am working on a collection of short stories. My areas of expertise are story structure and creative writing.
If you are in need of music tutoring, need help with music theory or are looking for feedback on a creative writing or composition project, I would love to contribute my knowledge to help you develop your work, study for a test or just learn more about these art forms.
Over the last four years I have been writing scripts and sketches with comedy groups in New York. I worked as a script assistant to producer/director Karl Bardosh, helping him to rewrite his work (he's Hungarian, and his writing needed some grammatical touch-ups). I have dedicated years to understanding stories and language, and I recently applied to graduate programs in creative writing. My goal is to teach at the college level, and I love working one-on-one with students to help them develop their facility with language.
My degree is in jazz composition. I have worked as a jingle writer and touring musician, playing saxophone and bass. I have ten years of experience teaching private and group lessons, most recently working with music ed non-profit MIMA Music in NYC, where I served as their educational director, teaching classes and devising music curriculums for high school and middle school students.
I have a wealth of knowledge about the theory and structure of music and language, and it is an absolute joy to share this knowledge with others. I also have quite a bit of practical experience with these subjects, and can help you to develop a well rounded understanding of how language and music work. If you need any help with writing papers or stories, learning music theory, ear training or an instrument, I am here to serve! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have over fifteen years of experience playing woodwind, string and brass instruments. I have taught general music classes with high school and middle school students for almost five years, and I have taught private lessons intermittently for ten years. I hold a degree in jazz composition and studied saxophone and bass at Berklee College of Music.
