I acquired my bachelor of science in Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology from University of California Santa Cruz. I am currently working at a private biotechnology company where I do cell culture expansion for clinical trial pharmaceuticals. My passions span across the sciences; Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics. I specialized, however in the fields of Biology; Molecular Biology, Cellular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, and Developmental biology.
I previously hosted annual k6-12 science weeks at Moorpark College. During this week I would host courses on various molecular biology techniques as well as teaching basic biology and chemistry principles.
Ever since I first saw the excitement the scientific world holds I acquired an appetite for knowledge I would never fill. Tutoring allows me to spark the same passion that was sparked in me a long time ago. Keeping science exciting, relevant and practical are key aspects of successful tutoring.
I have completed the following courses in mathematics; elementary math, trigonometry, geometry, algebra 1, algebra 2, pre-calculus, statistics, caluclus 1, calculus 2 and calculus 3. I have also completed the entire calculus based physics series.
In other sciences I have completed the following; Biology series, molecular biology, cellular biology, biochemistry, genetics, chemistry and organic chemistry. I also have completed many other unique courses in the sciences; neglected tropical diseases, cancer cell biology, computational tools for biologists and developmental biology.
My goal is to do more than merely increase grades. My goal is to increase overall cognitive thought and spark interest in science. I'm not gonna lie, I needed my hand held with the chemistry I was learning. Matthew patiently walked me through the pieces I didn't understand and began to connect the dots. I would highly recommend him for tutoring, in almost any subject, because these difficult subjects make sense to him, he can put them in English for someone like me. I can't wait to learn some more from him!
I contacted Matt because I needed help with my Molecular Biology course. He responded right away and was incredibly helpful. He was able to clear up the topics that I had difficulty with and was super patient about it. He definitely knows his stuff!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I received a bachelors of science in molecular, cellular and developmental biology from UCSC. I also have over 2 years of experience in a molecular biology laboratory and biology internships. I also assisting in teaching molecular biology techniques to middle school and high school students at Moorpark college's science week for two years.
With a degree in molecular, cellular and developmental biology comes many courses in chemistry from general to organic. I received A's throughout the general chemistry series at university and also worked for 2 years in the molecular biology lab. Chemistry is the subject that i primarily tutor as I enjoy seeing students begin to understand the wonders of chemistry and the increasing grades that follow.
I have a degree in molecular, cellular and developmental biology. During that degree I completed eukaryotic molecular genetics and the eukaryotic molecular genetics laboratory as my senior exit course. Also while working at Moorpark College, in the biology laboratory, I prepped for all genetics laboratory courses and ensured all working reagents.
I have completed math courses up to and including multi-variable calculus. Geometry is a subject I tutor frequently with a consistent ~2 geometry students at any given time.
