CAL STATE UNIVERSITY LOS ANGELES (Master's)
I am a recent master's graduate with a background in marine and molecular related research. My past academic experience has been in systematics, marine biology, molecular ecology, marine ecology, evolution, phylogenetics and invertebrate zoology. During my master's program, I was in charge of many college-level laboratory classes and have learned to effectively relate and teach science to students. I believe at this time in science, there needs to be a shift to just knowing "facts" to applying those facts and data and learning how to think critically; science is no longer about memorization. I have done past research at the Natural History Museum in Los Angeles county and have been able to see what it takes for students to succeed past college. Coming from smaller universities I have learned what it takes to stand out among your colleagues and have gone through the challenges of making yourself known. Thus I feel I am able to paint a detailed picture of the world of higher education and beyond.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My Master's program and my research experience at the Natural History Museum in Los Angeles was in inveterate zoology and genetics. I was studying the evolutionary relationships of marine organisms using both morphological and molecular data. My Master's program lasted 3.5 years and I have been the the museum since early 2012. In addition I have taken multiple classes on both of these subjects.
