I am a former college professor with a passion for teaching. I have taught or tutored children and adults for over 40 years, and have learned that students master material when it is relevant and interesting to them. Too often, material is presented in ways that do not allow students to apply their own experience and intuition to learning . A good teacher adapts to the student. I am a former college professor with a passion for teaching. I have taught or tutored children and adults for over 40 years, and have learned that students master material when it is relevant and interesting to them. Too often, material is presented in ways that do not allow students to apply their own experience and intuition to learning . A good teacher adapts to the student. The key to success includes inspiring ownership of the material to be mastered, rather than just forcing a required passing acquaintance with it. I am very comfortable working with a structured curriculum, or developing curricula and teaching strategies to suit the student.

I have been tutoring multiple elementary to high school students online since March 2020.

I was a full-time professor of developmental and cognitive psychology for 9 years. I have taught a wide range of college-level psychology, social policy and educational policy courses. In addition, I have developed and taught writing courses for first year college students. I am a published scholar in the area of educational policy, early education, reading, bilingualism, and learning. I have also worked on national educational policy. Since leaving academia, I have been a volunteer tutor for students preparing for the GRE, and have also worked at a substitute teacher.

I am also experienced with home-schooling. I home-schooled my (gifted) child for his 3 years of middle school, developing a tailored curriculum from a wide range of resources. If you are looking for a tutor to develop curricula for your child, I have many resources from which to draw.
