CSUS at Sacramento (Bus Administration)
My passion is learning so you can consider me an ongoing student as well as a teacher. I graduated with a BS in Business Administration, concentrating in Organizational Behavior. I went round circle from organizations to individuals. The need to organize, manage time, study skillfully, and motivate oneself are essential to not only school success, but in any walk of life. So besides learning the math concepts, the reading or writing skills, I also focus on teaching my students how to effectively master the above skills.
Finding the best way a student learns is one of my primary goals. We learn visually, conceptually, kinetically, orally, etc. I try to apply one or more of those styles in teaching. For example, my math students are required to keep a math notebook, where they write/draw their own notes on the concepts that I teach. His or her interpretation of words are written in a way that he/she understands and they usually are not necessarily my words of instruction. This is where learning and teaching connect. Of course, I then expect the student to show me their work to prove understanding. That skill is practiced until they able to do it on their own.
I have been teaching most of my life. I taught shorthand and typing to German secretaries that wanted to work for the United States Federal Government in Germany in the 70's. Following that, I taught aerobics, step, and stretching for ten years for the YMCA, Richard Simmons and other private workout studios. I have been substitute teaching for the last seven years for grades kindergarten through 8th in all subjects: Language Arts, specifically reading comprehension, grammar, vocabulary and spelling; Math, all skills from counting to pre-algebra in the El Dorado County schools. For four years, I tutored in the Buckeye school district, specifically in phonics for primary education students, and math concepts for secondary students. I also tutor at a private learning center for special needs students, and lastly, I work with private students in Math. I am a bookkeeper and understand accounting and tax practices. The tax code is interpretable!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
