About Greg

Hi, my name is Greg, and I've been a tutor for more than seven years. I graduated from Washington University in St. Louis (Ranked #15 US News and World Reports) with a physics B.A. and a 3.9 GPA. I have tutored dozens of students over the last seven years, ranging from middle school students to graduate school students and adults going back to school, although I mostly tutor high school and college students. Most of my students stick with me for a long time--I've tutored students for their entire high school careers, and most of my current students have been with me for at least a year. From Algebra 1 and geometry to AP Statistics and AP Calculus, from freshman Chemistry classes to AP Physics, I have helped students improve their grades and overcome test anxiety. I also help students both review material and learn test-taking strategies to prepare for crucial tests like the SAT, ACT, and SSAT.

My approach to tutoring is to try to get my students to work through problems as independently as possible, with me there to provide guidance when you get off-track or confused. By guiding you when necessary, but making you think and work through problems on your own as much as you possibly can, my goal is to try to avoid that feeling of "I can do the problems when my tutor is here, but when I go into the test I freeze up." I'm patient with my students, so I don't get frustrated if the material is difficult.

I'm also comfortable with teaching material for the first time, if you missed class or need a refresher on the basics. Finally, I also tutor all of the subjects on the SAT, ACT, and SSAT. Besides reviewing the material on these tests, I enjoy teaching my students test-taking strategies including time management, knowing when and how to guess, working backwards from the answers, recognizing common types of wrong answers, and more.

I earned 5s on the AP Calculus AB and BC exams in high school, as well as the AP Statistics exam. I enjoy teaching students the problem-solving skills they need to become confident tackling math problems on their own. I am comfortable tutoring all high school and college math classes.

I like to help my students understand the concepts they need to know to understand how to work through a physics problem. I am comfortable tutoring all high school and college physics classes, including all AP physics classes.

Please get in touch to learn more about me and talk about setting up a tutoring session. I hope to talk to you soon!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Science

I have been tutoring both the material and test-taking strategies for the ACT Science section both as an independent tutor and for tutoring companies for more than seven years.

Despite the fact that I went on to major in physics at Washington University in St. Louis (ranked #15 National University by US News and World Reports) and graduate with a 3.9 GPA, I earned a relatively lackluster 30 on the ACT Science section because I didn't prepare for the test and I didn't know how tricky the ACT Science Section can be. Now I have a good understanding of the unusual format of the ACT Science section, and I know the strategies to help my students use the unusual format to their advantage.

Algebra 1

I have been tutoring Algebra 1 for more than seven years. I took Algebra 1 in 7th grade and earned an A. I went on to use my math skills at Washington University in St. Louis (ranked #15 National University by US News and World Reports, graduated with a 3.9 GPA), where I majored in physics and earned As in upper-level math classes like Matrix Algebra and Differential Equations.

Calculus

I earned A's in Calculus 3 and Differential Equations at Washington University in St. Louis (ranked #15 national university by US News and World Reports, graduated with a 3.9 GPA). I also used calculus extensively in my major in physics at Wash U. In high school I earned A's on the AP Calculus AB and BC exams.

GRE

I took the GRE in June 2017 and earned a perfect score (170 Verbal Reasoning, 170 Quantitative Reasoning, 6.0 Analytical Writing). I have tutored several students in all subjects of the GRE.

Physics

I graduated with a physics B.A. (3.9 GPA) from Washington University in St. Louis (ranked #15 National University by US News and World Reports). I also earned a 5 on the AP Physics C Mechanics Exam in high school. I have been tutoring physics for more than seven years.

SAT Math

I have been tutoring both the material and test-taking strategies for the SAT Math section both as an independent tutor and for tutoring companies for more than seven years. In high school I earned a 790 on the SAT Math section.

Statistics

I have been tutoring statistics at a high school and college level for more than seven years. In high school I earned a 5 on the AP Statistics exam. I am familiar with statistical software including R, Excel, and some experience with SPSS and MiniTabs.
