About Kira

Welcome! My name is Kira, and I am an LA-based singer/songwriter and tutor with 10 years of experience in music. I am currently pursuing my Bachelor's Degree in Vocal Performance at Los Angeles College of Music (LACM) while performing around Los Angeles as a solo act and also with my pop/rock band and jazz quartet. I tutor several students at my college and I also am a teacher's assistant for music summer camps and other youth ensembles at the Silverlake Conservatory of Music.

For most of my life, I have loved not only playing music, but learning about all the inner workings of music as well! I have been training in music for about 10 years through the Silverlake Conservatory of Music and through private lessons in voice, guitar, and piano. I'm currently in my 2nd year at LACM studying with teachers such as Tierney Sutton (6-time Grammy-nominated jazz vocalist) Kacee Clanton ('A Night With Janis Joplin'). During my 1st year at LACM I have been on the Dean's List for all 5 quarters and am a registered student tutor for music theory, ear training, chart writing, and sight singing. Since I have had such a great experience as a music student, I want to be able to bring that experience to others by guiding them through the process of learning how to read, write, and perform music.

I specialize in tutoring for music theory, ear training, chart writing, and sight singing. After visiting the main foundation of these subjects and establishing a firm understanding of them, we can dive into the most exciting part, which is applying it to YOUR music! We can write a chart for a new song, practice sight singing a piece for choir, or add some fun extensions to your basic chords on guitar and piano! Building a deep knowledge of music will expand your horizons for your music career like you have never imagined. My goal is to not only expand the student's knowledge of music, but to enhance their experience of music.

As a current music student pursuing my dream in an intense college program, I have learned how overwhelming and crazy it can be to keep everything balanced and stay motivated, but I have also learned that passion, an open mind, and a little extra help can go a long way! I hope that with a little extra help from me, you'll be able to take your musical knowledge to new heights!

Looking forward to working with you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Ear Training

I have taken 4 quarters/levels of ear training courses at Los Angeles College of Music. Each quarter I have received an A in the class. As a result, I was asked to become a registered student tutor at my school, and I have now tutored several other students at my college in ear training.

General Music

I would use this subject category to tutor students in chart writing (music notation) or Sibelius. I have taken three quarters/levels of chart writing at Los Angeles College of Music and have gotten an A for each quarter. I am experienced both in handwriting charts on staff paper and also using the Sibelius music notation software to write charts. I apply these skills very often to write charts for my 3 different band projects (pop, rock, and jazz) and have now written over 50 charts in just over a year.

Music Theory

I have taken 4 quarters/levels of music theory courses at Los Angeles College of Music. Each quarter I have received an A in the class. As a result, I was asked to become a registered student tutor at my school, and I have now tutored several other students at my college in music theory.

Sight Singing

I have taken three quarters/levels of sight singing courses at Los Angeles College of Music. Each quarter I have received an A in the class. As a result, I was asked to become a registered student tutor at my school, and I have now tutored other vocalists at my college in sight singing. I also apply my sight singing skills regularly by singing in a choir ensemble every year at the Silverlake Conservatory of Music.
