About Emily

I am an attorney and PhD with over 15 years of teaching and tutoring experience. In law school, I earned the highest grade in 9 of my courses, and graduated at the top of my class. I passed the CA Bar Exam on my first attempt, then clerked for a federal judge and worked as a senior litigation associate at a nationally ranked law firm. I now devote my time to tutoring law students for their coursework, the Baby Bar, and Bar Exams; teaching Legal Writing at USC; and working with attorneys to strengthen their legal writing skills.

In addition to my JD, I hold a PhD in Rhetoric and Composition. My teaching experience includes graduate and undergraduate writing courses as well as SAT, GRE, and LSAT prep courses for two of the biggest standardized test prep companies in the country. Although I now spend most of my time working with law students and lawyers, I also work with high school and college students on college and grad school personal statements, SAT/GRE/LSAT verbal and writing, and resumes/cover letters.

Teaching and tutoring are my career, not an aside. I tailor my sessions to the individual needs of my students, and my students see results by way of stronger analytical and writing skills, higher exam scores, and better grades. I look forward to working with you to help you achieve your academic and professional goals!

Please note that I have a 24-hour cancellation policy.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bar Exam

I am an attorney, PhD, and member of the California Bar. I graduated 2nd in my class from UC Davis School of Law, where I earned the highest grade in 9 of my courses. I passed the California Bar Exam on my first try, after which I clerked for a federal judge then worked as a senior litigation associate at one of the top law firms in the country. I now work with students and attorneys to help them understand content, master IRAC, and pass the bar. I am also an adjunct professor of Legal Writing. My office is in Sherman Oaks office, but I also work with students across the country online.

Career Development

I have a PhD and a JD. I regularly work with students and professionals on job applications, grad school applications, and on figuring out their desired career paths and how to get there. In addition to my experience working with others on career development, I have also changed careers myself (from attorney to professor to private tutor/small business owner), so I personally understand what it's like to go through the process.

Law

I am an attorney and PhD who tutors law students, does bar prep, teaches Legal Writing at USC, and works with attorneys to strengthen their legal writing skills. I graduated second in my class from UC Davis School of Law, where I earned the highest grade in 9 of my courses (including Legal Writing), and was a teaching assistant for a legal writing course. After law school, I completed a clerkship for a federal district court judge and worked at an international law firm. I am also a member of the Order of the Coif and the California Bar, and have a PhD in English. I work with law students from all over the country to help them understand course content, master IRAC, get higher grades, and pass the bar.

Writing

I have over 10 years of experience teaching/tutoring writing for law, graduate, undergraduate, and high school students, including ESL students. I have a PhD in Composition and Rhetoric, and currently teach undergraduate writing courses. I am also an attorney. In law school, I earned the highest grade in my legal writing class and was a teaching assistant for a legal writing course.
