In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have tutored several students for the high school placement exam. In addition, I directed a class of approximately 40 children in an 8 week program in preparation for the high school placement exam. Most were accepted to high school at the honors math level. I also coached an academic decathlon team of 10 students in math, English, social studies, science, religion, literature, current events, and logic. My team won the diocesan competition 5 times and the state championship 3 times. I have a bachelor and masters degree in education and a Montessori elementary diploma for grades 1 to 8. I completed the CBEST exam in the state of California without missing one math question on the exam.
I have experience teaching 6th grade for about 5 years, substitute teaching in grades K to 5 for 5 years, and tutoring students from preschool all through high school. I am qualified to work with just about any age student as my love of learning and passion for children and education comes through. I can submit letters of reference for this category if need be.
