Bio

Hi, I'm Tom! I'm a classicist and linguist who earned my PhD from UC Berkeley in 2015. I've served as Director of the Berkeley Intensive Summer Workshops in both Latin and Greek, and have taught a variety of Latin and Greek language and literature classes as a lecturer at Berkeley and Stanford, from beginning grammar to graduate-level syntax and prose composition. I'm also a native Hebrew speaker and enjoy teaching conversational Hebrew.

Hi, I'm Tom! I'm a classicist and linguist who earned my PhD from UC Berkeley in 2015. I've served as Director of the Berkeley Intensive Summer Workshops in both Latin and Greek, and have taught a variety of Latin and Greek language and literature classes as a lecturer at Berkeley and Stanford, from beginning grammar to graduate-level syntax and prose composition. I'm also a native Hebrew speaker and enjoy teaching conversational Hebrew.

Languages have been my passion since early childhood, and I love sharing that passion with students. I tailor my teaching approach to each student's specific needs, whether it's reviewing forms and vocab, introducing new concepts, teaching study strategies, or reading texts together. Wherever you currently are in your language learning journey, I can help you make progress in a fun and respectful way!

I'm also an experienced tutor for the SAT, ACT, and other exams. I'm deeply familiar with the test formats and question types, and base my tutoring on a combination of teaching overall test-taking strategies and specific approaches to each category of question. I am trained in the PointsBooster method of exam prep (yourscorebooster.com) and am currently completing my SAT/ACT tutor certification with Test Prep and Tutoring Professionals (testprepprofessionals.com). I focus on the reading and writing sections of the exams, but also teach the math and science sections.

Very knowledgeable tutor

I had a very productive meeting with Tom. He explained to me many parts of the linguistic paper that I didn't understand. I highly recommend anyone who wants to learn about linguistics to schedule a meeting with him.
