I have a B.S. Degree in Environmental Studies from SJSU. I graduated Cum Laude. I have minors in Chemistry and Political Science. I also have an A.S. Degree in Aircraft Mechanics from City College of San Francisco. I won a scholarship to Northrup University Aircraft Engineering Program. I was also offered a scholarship to pursue a teaching credential from San Jose Unified School District.

I worked 10 years as a substitute teacher. I worked the public school system, K-12. I worked individually with students and in groups to assist them across the academic spectrum. I also taught adults, working for the California Motorcycle Safety Program. I worked these individuals in the field and classroom, individually and in groups.

My approach to tutoring is to first listen and learn where the student needs help. I ask the student how he/she would like to approach learning the material. Would the student like to work on the activities assigned, have remedial activities administered, or a combination of both? Where would the student like to start? I consult both the students and parents.

l truly enjoy the profession of teaching. It is very rewarding. Seeing the expressions of joy on students' faces when they come to understand a subject, brings me great happiness and satisfaction. I feel very motivated to facilitate the success of students and all individuals.

For a very successful, fulfilling experience in learning, I encourage the use my services. I make success a priority, and I make learning a fun experience.

During my first 6 months of substitute teaching, I worked with two master teachers who taught grades K-3. I learned from these teachers not only how to teach math at those grade levels but all subjects. I assisted in lesson plan development, administration of lesson plans, and one-to-one assistance with several students. During the summer following the 6 months, I was the lead teacher for the students who were going from K-1 to 2-3. In the ensuing years, I worked with that age group often and learned more details and nuances in connecting with students in those grade levels.

Special Needs

ADHD,

ADHD

During my 10 years working as a substitute teacher in the K-12 system, I worked extensively in Special Education Classes. Initially, I worked for 6 months under 2 different Master Special Education Teachers. Their classes were Special Day and consisted of a variety of learning disabled students, including those with ADD/ADHD. In one class, I was a one-to-one aide for a student who had Autism. She also had attention deficit issues. I also have a son who is learning disabled. Part of the constellation of disabilities is ADD/ADHD. I have tutored him all the way through K-12 and am now helping him in College. I studied the DSM thoroughly and have a good grasp of learning disabilities as they appear in the academic setting. I have applied measures to help these students repeatedly and have a good grasp not only from an academic standpoint but from an emotional standpoint on how to deal with them. Above all, patience and perseverance are very important.

Initially, I worked for 6 months under two different Master Special Education Teachers. Their classes were Special Day and consisted of a variety of learning disabled students. I continued to substitute primarily in Special Education Classes. I worked with students who have ADD/ADHD, Autism, Auditory Processing Disorder, Dyslexia, Visual Perceptual Disorders, Developmental Delays, and more. In general, their executive functioning, memory, and language processing were impaired to varying degrees. In addition, I have studied the DSM thoroughly and thus have both experiential and academic understanding of this population.
