Boston University (Film)
Columbia University (Master's)
I received my MFA in Writing from Columbia University in 2010. Since 2005, I have taught and tutored students of all ages, from native speakers to English-language learners. I specialize in the following: Grammar, Vocabulary, Expository Writing, Critical Reading, Fiction Writing, Test prep (verbal sections only :)), Accent Reduction, Editing. I have taken the AP Tests in English, American History, and European History (scored 5 on all), and can tutor history/social studies as well.
My high-school-aged tutoring students have matriculated at prestigious colleges, including Stanford University and Johns Hopkins. I only tutor in person, at the student's home or a local library. I do not liaise with teachers. I LOVE reading and writing and can help you with both! Whether you are highly motivated, or simply trying to get a passing grade--I work with all ranges of enthusiasm and have no judgments if reading-and-writing is not your jam.
I am rigorous and old-school. I will not let you get away with weak arguments, or write vague and repetitive sentences just to fill up a page. I believe every person is innately brilliant, even if he or she is not excited about, or challenged by, an academic subject.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
