Hello. My name is Ed. I've worn many hats in life, but the making of art and creative use of media has always been my favorite. Whether you desire to draw a portrait in traditional media, paint digitally or retouch a worn treasured photograph with Adobe Photoshop, I'd love to be on your team. A few years ago I decided to add all things digital to my artistic toolbox, finally leading to a degree in graphic arts from the School of Information Technology & Communication Design at California State University Monterey Bay. My emphasis there was digital animation, but my strong, cinematic sense in motion art is grounded in traditional figure drawing, composition, color and design theory. I must have used Adobe Photoshop at least once every day for the last ten years, and drawn with graphite pencil or charcoal for more than five times longer than that. One thing I must mention is that drawing and Photoshop are sufficiently complex that an artist never stops in the need to learn. That goes for me as well. I subscribe to many forums, and engage in discussions with professional and student artists alike. If you have a burning question that I can't immediately answer, I will surely do my best to find that answer -- or point you in the right direction. Thank you in advance for letting me help you realize your creative projects. Hello. My name is Ed. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
It seems that a day has never passed in twelve years when I haven't used Adobe Photoshop. Although I've worn many job hats through the years, the making of art has always been a most important part of my life. Already familiar with Photoshop for adding graphical drama to otherwise boring academic papers, as a professional photographer's assistant I learned to use Photoshop to retouch and restore damaged photographs. I learned from other professionals how to crop photographs, tweak the lighting, color balance and saturation to make them eye-popping. Several years ago, I decided to return to school to formally add digital methods to my toolbox of traditional artist skills. I graduated cum laude from the School of Information Technology & Communication Design, the graphic arts and animation degree program at California State University Monterey Bay. Now by day I'm a mild-mannered informational graphic designer. While I have facility in the Adobe Photoshop application, I also have a strong background in figure drawing and anatomy, composition, perspective and color theory, and by night I strive to create great art. I must add that Adobe Photoshop can be a very sophisticated and complex application. As such it can greatly simplify your digital tasks -- or make them awfully complicated. I subscribe to many forums discussing graphic arts with professionals and students alike, and I'm constantly introduced in amazement to techniques I don't know. So, an artist never stops learning, and that goes for me as well. If you have a burning question about Photoshop I can't answer, I certainly will strive to find out -- or point you in the right direction. Whether you want to enhance your travel photos, restore worn but treasured ones, create your own personalized humorous cards or do digital paintings, I'd love to be on your team to help you meet your goals with Adobe Photoshop.
Family legend has it that at the age of three I used my mother's lipstick to draw an airplane on a dresser mirror. At the age of six my parents gave me a Jon Gnagy "Learn to Draw" kit. Then I graduated from New York's Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music and the Arts (the "Fame" school). Although in terms of jobs I have worn many hats through the years, drawing and the making of art has always been a very important part of my life. Several years ago, I decided to added digital methods to my artistic toolbox. As a result, I graduated cum laude from the School of Information Technology & Communication Design, the graphic arts and animation degree program at California State University Monterey Bay, and am currently employed as a graphic designer. I have informal and formal training over many years in traditional media - graphite pencil, charcoal, conte crayon, hard, soft and oil pastels. Those are just the physical materials - I also have training in figure drawing and anatomy, composition, perspective and color theory. Do you want to draw quick sketches of people, animals and nature? Cartoons, caricatures and anime? Formal portraits? I'd love to be on your team to help you meet your artistic development and goals.
