My goal is to help students succeed in school and encourage them to pursue studies in engineering or science. I have a PhD in Mechanical Engineering and extensive practical experience from a career of working in exciting fields such as space satellites and laser weapons. As a result, I am well versed in the mathematics, statistics, and physics disciplines. I have been tutoring with WyzAnt for seven years and have enjoyed it immensely. Some of my students have told me that I was the best tutor they have ever had.
All my students have shown improvement. My personal experience is that when a student is having trouble understanding a subject it is generally because the teaching material is not tailored to their individual learning style. This is not unusual in the classroom because the instructor has many students and does not have the time to focus on the individual. My approach is to identify each student's learning capability and adapt my tutoring to fit their style and needs. During my time with WyzAnt I have assembled significant supplemental learning aids in each subject and typically spend significant time prior to a session further tailoring easy to comprehend material to help my students more readily grasp the topic at hand.
The grade levels of my students has ranged from freshmen in high school to college. Their motivations are quite varied and range from just wanting to pass the course to serious interest in advanced placement and college classes. Consequently, the performance ability and need of each student is different. I have been able to help them all and believe I can help you too. Robert is always punctual, always prepared and always encouraging. His explanations are clear and thorough. We particularly appreciate his willingness to stay longer than an hour when more time has been needed to properly cover a topic and, equally, to cut the hour short (and charge accordingly) if everything has been covered. We couldn't ask for better.
Robert has been tutoring my son in physics and calculus. He's been an extreme asset. Knowledgeable, on time, always prepared, vast experience. So grateful for his help!
Robert is very flexible with addressing subject matter as my son progresses in calculus and physics AP. He asks for topics ahead of time so that he can be prepared for a fine-tuned lesson. His feedback on progress made during the lesson is very helpful.
Robert is a great tutor who helped me through confusing points in trigonometry, and explained problems that I didn't understand very clearly. He is very punctual and always shows up on time, never too early nor too late.
We really like Robert, he is pleasant, prompt and is prepared for the lesson to accommodates my daughter classes. Thanks Wanda
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have extensive experience in applying calculus to real world problems in my career as an engineer. Because of this I came to realize how important it is for my students to gain a firm basis in the subject and have focused upon helping them to achieve this. I supplement my sessions with clear, easy to understand handouts and work with my students to assure they fully grasp the material.
I studied linear algebra during my undergraduate studies as a complement to my other math courses: calculus, advanced calculus, and differential equations. Most importantly, linear algebra provided the basis for my area of specialization for my Masters and PhD degrees. My graduate work focused upon control system analysis and required extensive use of the concepts of matrices and linear spaces. I am very well versed in the use of matrix algebra and calculus to manipulate and solve both linear and differential systems of equations. Given my knowledge and experience, I feel very confident to share my knowledge with WyzAnt students.
Because basic physics is a primary building block in both the engineering and science fields, it is critical that a student has a good foundation in the subject. My background is engineering and I am very enthusiastic about physics and focus upon imparting this enthusiasm and helping my students gain a good knowledge basis on which to build. I also supplement my sessions with clear, yet detailed, handouts to assure their understanding of the more difficult topics.
I have been successfully tutoring statistics at both the high school AP and college levels for more than four years. Over this period, I have developed support packets to help my students with probability, binomial distributions, least squares regression, and inference testing. The testing packets include decision charts to help determine which sets of equations to use with confidence intervals, hypothesis testing, and inference on two samples.
