I have been working as a tutor for 16 years. I worked with students as a peer tutor, then as a professional tutor after obtaining my Bachelor's degree and teaching credential. My favorite part of tutoring is watching my students' faces light up when they have an "ah-ha" moment. It is extremely fulfilling for me to have the opportunity to work with students in small groups and one on one rather than in a whole classroom setting.
In addition to tutoring, I have been a classroom teacher for middle school math and science. Students in my classes enjoy my project-based approach to the curriculum. I integrate technology where appropriate, and present a curriculum that had room for students to explore their own curiosities. I focus not just on the content, but also the scientific process. I ask open-ended questions and give my students the tools to discover systematically the answers, which I believe are fundamental to their educations.
I have found that working with students is a perfect match for my science-oriented mind and love of learning.
I have had training as a math teacher to approach math with a variety of strategies in order to determine the best approach for each individual student.

Thank you so much, Alessio really enjoyed the lesson, relating math to real life makes learning concepts like ratios and fractions seem easier !
Kathryn is kind and considerate of our daughter. We appreciate her patience and passion for helping her understand Math from a different perspective.
Kathryn is an answered prayer! This was the first time in my daughter's academic career that she needed help and Kathryn was a wonderful match. Her calm and caring personality put my daughter at ease and her attentive instructions were clear and helped make difficult concepts easier to grasp. I highly recommend her.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
