About Aaron

Hi, I look forward to helping you or your child learn subject matter and also how to learn. I have been tutoring a variety of subjects since I was getting my degree in biology in the mid-90s. I signed up at the tutoring center to tutor fellow students and really enjoyed the experience. From there, I taught biology and English in the Peace Corps in Malawi, Africa, which gave me extra insight into teaching people who are struggling with English.

After returning, I worked for many years as a substitute teacher and went to massage school. I was asked to teach anatomy and physiology at the massage school, which I did for 10 years until it closed. I tutored many students over those 10 years, helping them pass their national exams with a 90% success rate. Then I was asked to teach at the community college level. I also have experience tutoring students at Santa Rosa Junior College in anatomy and physiology.

Currently, I am working on my multiple subject teaching credential for grades K-8. I'm student teaching in a 5th grade class here in Santa Rosa. I really enjoy working with children, especially those who are struggling. Students appreciate my ability to explain math in a way they can relate to. I look forward to meeting you or your child and helping you tackle tough material.

My Peace Corps experience gives me a unique perspective on teaching students who are not native speakers. I learned how to simplify the language for better student understanding. As an anatomy teacher, I taught medical terminology classes. I taught my students how to break down complex words into their Latin and Greek roots. This gives me extra insight into teaching English.

I enjoy connecting with students and helping them understand how to learn, how to study, and how to succeed.

Please contact me for evening and weekend sessions. I look forward to meeting you and/or your children.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Anatomy

I started studying anatomy and physiology as a junior in high school. I started tutoring when I was working on my BS in Biology. I taught all of the anatomy & physiology courses at a massage school for 10 years, then taught at a community college for 2 semesters. I tutor students from all of the local colleges.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am currently in my second semester of my multiple subject teaching credential. I started tutoring as an undergraduate in 1994. I've worked as a substitute teacher since 1998 at all levels from K-12. I gravitate toward the earlier grades because I really enjoy working with younger kids.

Physiology

I taught all of the anatomy & physiology courses at the Ralston School of Massage in Reno, the top massage school in Nevada, for 10 years. When the owners of the school retired, I was asked to teach in the massage program at the local community college.

Since moving to Sonoma County in 2013, I've tutored students from all of the colleges in the area.
